Landscaping my Central Florida Yard

Well.. we finally did it. We killed all of the weeds in the weed garden in the front yard. Now I need help planting some REAL low maintenance plants there. We will be spreading cedar mulch (from the tree below) It gets morning eastern sun, which is filtered by the cedar tree that is in front of it. This area is right in front of the front porch, so I don't want to put anything there that will mess up the foundation and sidewalk (it's borders) I also need to now what will (successfully) grow under the high acidity cedar tree. I has recently been trimmed way high (picture a Whoville tree) The pictures (if i can upload them both) are taken from the north side of the house, but again, the front of the house gets eastern morning filtered sun. That bush will be removed. Ok so I can only load one photo.. I don't know how to blend them into one. So I will start a new discussion and upload the pic of the now dirt garden :)
