Native American Indian Blood - Proving Your Ancestry

For those who have Native American Indian Blood, how did you find out you had it? Who in your ancestral line passed it down? Can you tell me what to do to find out if I have Native American Indian blood in my ancestry?
We have those American Indian stories rumored through our history and I've tried to find out through researching our ancestry where it came from, but I've not had much luck.
Anybody got any ideas or tips to help me prove or disprove the rumors?

Only thing you can do is talk with your family about your grandparents and then their parents so on and so on. You need to start somewhere. Search on these people. Start making a geneolgy tree and it should help you back root your family. If your mom and dad are alive sit and talk with them. As you also mentioned that you have traced back 40 years. Good luck to you in your search.
