I have been working with my PT (personal trainer) for one month and have gotten my results... They seem a little strange and wanted my fellow MyLotters to weigh in on the results. RESULTS:1½" increase in chest size ½" decrease in waist 3lbs. increase in weight 11.5% decrease in fat (pretty awesome for 4 weeks) arms - same legs - same (both of which have very little fat... fat is stored in my stomach) Now with all this great news about fat loss (almost to normal BMI and body fat content), why is my weight increasing? I really don't get it. My workout... Monday -- strength training (with PT) Tuesday -- cardio workout Wednesday -- pilates Thursday -- strength training (with PT) Friday -- cardio workout Saturday -- cardio workout Sunday -- light workout in morning at home... stretching Also when I am working out I am trying to find what my range should be for working out... should I be in the fat burning zone (longer workout with a lower pulse-rate) or cardio (shorter workout with higher pulserate). According to Dr. Oz on Oprah (yeah I watch him now and again), my ideal pulse when working out should be 148 (220-age*.80). That is what I have been using but have not seen any decrease in weight. My 'ideal' weight is still 20 lbs. away so I still have weight to lose, and quite a bit of it. I have changed my diet, almost to a vegetarian diet, using only meats that are not red meat (chicken, fish, ... with no preservatives or HGH), soy milk (organic), organic cereals, have increased my intake of food from once to 4 - 5 times a day with snacks consisting of smoothies made at home from fresh fruits and protien powders. Amost all white sugar and corn syrup is gone from my diet and almost all cheeses as well. I eat carrots for a snack instead of chips (BIG change)... I feel like I'm going to end up becoming vegan if I change any more. I am glad to see the numbers but I am really stuck when it comes to weight loss... Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks mylotters!Zelo

It sounds as if you're gaining muscle mass while decreasing fat...and muscle ALWAYS weighs more than fat. Lean muscle also helps to burn body fat. Don't worry about your 'ideal weight'--it honestly doesn't mean anything! I went through a period where I honestly believed I was FAT (at 5'2" and 127 lbs), not even realizing at the time it was because of the weights I was lifting for track! I'm not a PT (heck, I'm out of shape and I know it, but I can't work out like I'm used to because I have MS and it limits me quite a bit), but I'd suggest looking into foods that Reader's Digest mentioned two months ago as natural fat burners for the abdominal region. That might help--good luck and WTG on lowering your BMI!

GREAT! I believe I can get a hold of an older Reader's Digest... do you remeber what month it was? I would be really interested to read about that! Thanks for the response Zelo

I was thinking of something else, but here's a great article on rd.com (Reader's Digest online) with some great follow up articles: http://www.rd.com/health/weight-loss/food/9-simple-diet-changes/article.html Good luck!
