format not valid when editing a video

when i try to edit my video clip on jasc animation shop it says video not valid !! help ?????????

what do you mean the format ? all i know is i made a short vid clip from my cell phone & sent it to my yahoo & saved it to my computer

whats the extension on the file, the .whatever after the file name, if there isnt one, thats the problem.
