Adopting pets

How many of you have adopted pets from a rescue center? How has life been after that both for your pet and you? I would love to know about it. There is some interesting information in http://www.dogcarereviews.com regarding adopting pets.

More than I can count! I have been on the end of finding homes for abused animals as well. That was sooooo rewarding! As far as I'm concerned saving an abused animal & giving them a loving home is better than Buying a breed anyday. Rescued animals seem to know that you chose them & they love you for it. So... EVERYBODY adopt a critter!

whether id adopt a pet from a shelter would depend entirely on the animal and its age. i have a small child, and adopting say an adult dog.. from a shelter wouldnt be a consideration. you never really know where this animal came from or the conditions that led them to being in the shelter. behavioral problems such as aggression and biting can be a serious problem, especially if you have kids. they SAY they disclose everything, but in actuality, they do not alot of the times, and i just simply wouldnt risk it.

yes, you have a point there. Sometimes, rescue centers do withold information in order to get their wards adopted. One really has to be careful bout the place from where you adopt. I also agree with what you say about having a small child at home. In fact after reading ur response I have decided to write about how one should train dogs when a new baby arrives home, in my blog, the link for which is available on the site http://www.dogcarereviews.com. all 6 of my pets are rescued animals actually (4cats and 2 dogs) and life has been fabulous! My pets are my "other babies" and definately part of the family...I'd much rather get a pet from the Humane society or a rescue centre than a pet store actually

Wow! You know what? Id like to come and have a look at your great family! Its lovely to know that you prefer rescued animals. I too have adopted a couple of dogs in the same manner some time ago. i adopted my pets and i know many people who are adopted, and i noticed that all these pets are very loving and sweet. the messed up animals are because of the messed up motherfu***** who did something to them to make them that way...they have their defenses to protect themselves for scumbags in society...
