why people like gossip so much?

Still I do not understand why people like gossip so much?
whatever it may be.
yesterday a news came that one employee from my previous company killed his wife from suspicion and committed suicide himself. today so many people are asking me by any chance do I know him?
what actually happened?
so many people are talking about those. why people mainly like gossips even if it is sad?
your opinion please.

Even I don't know why people like to gossip. It just for the change of mood.

I don't like gossip, I don't listen to it,
but gossip is stuff that is not true, if the man killed himself and his wife it is true,
but still wanting to know about other people's business is gossip in another way,
because it is about something that is not your business,
I people who like gossip like it because it is a way to make somebody look bad,
or they are so bored with their own lives this stuff sounds exciting to them.
