Nancy Kerrigan Scandal

Can someone please explain the Nancy Kerrigan scandal to me? She was/is an ice skater. I don't remember anything about this, so I'm trying to find out why everyone is saying it's so shocking and bizarre. Thanks!

Nancy Kerrigan and Tonya Harding were ice skating competitors. Harding was jealous of Kerrigan and had her boyfriend, at the time, hit Nancy Kerrigan in the knee(s) with a baseball bat and nearly ruined her skating career. Harding was banned from any further competition and Kerrigan eventually recovered from her injuries and was able to skate again. It was an unnecessary act of violence. I can't recall if her boyfriend spent anytime in jail for this stupid act.

I can't believe Harding didn't spend anytime in jail! She should have. And Kerrigan should have sued the pants off her! I would have been so mad. I am really happy that she was able to continue on in the career she loved. How sick does someone have to be to hit someone across the knees because they were told to! I mean, the boyfriend probably didn't even know Kerrigan! He probably didn't have any beef with her, yet he would do something like this! How could he not get jail time!!?? That's aggrivated assualt with a deadly weapon...heck they could have tried to get him with attempted murder, but honestly I don't know if that one would fly. Thanks for the explanation!

Oh no that's fine. You've been a lot of help. Before I had no clue what even happened...for all I know she was abducted by aliens! lol. I;m glad I learned anything about it, thank you!

Well, there is only one scandal I can think about involving Nancy Kerrigan. It was atleast 10 years ago I think. She was one of the best skaters at the time. Then there was this other skater Tonya harding. Harding got really jealous and wanted to win. So she got her boyfriend to attack Nancy kerrigan. He took something like a bat or something and hit her knees so that she couldn't skate. she healed up and could skate again, and harding and the boyfriend got punished.

If it was 10 years ago that might be why I don't remember it. I would have only been about 9 then. That's terrible! I'm glad she healed and could still do what she loved. Do you know what punishment Harding and her boyfriend recieved? Thanks for explaining

Nancy Kerrigan was attacked by Tonya Harding and was clubbed in her knee, nearly ruined her skating carreer. if there is something new I don't know about - I don't know.

hi lily... i think you can easily find her story on the net... i remember that she is/was a skater (ice-figure)... but didnt know she was involved in a 'scandal'... so i browsed a bit... simplest story i could find : http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/sports/longterm/olympic1998/history/timeline/timeline.htm i really dont understand why tonya harding needed to hurt kerrigan like that... she (harding) should've just worked harder to compete to be as good or even better...
