recently i have had a bone marrow transplant to cure me of my cancer (lymphoma) and lukemia. Mine was done at roswell cancer institute in bufalo ny. every thing went great and i am now in remission. if there is any one out there with questions about the procedure let me know. or if you are about to go through this procedure or know some one who is about to go throughthis procedure and would like someone to talk to about it fel free to contact me. i know that after this procedure there is a lot of down time were you are not doing anything so having a good suport group and someone to talk to is a must

mike bowser! fantastic news on the successful transplant! Was the donor a family member or friend of yours or an anonymous person? were stem cell technology at all utilized?

Im so happy for you. Im glad all went well and that you are getting better. I know that Leukimia can be a scarry thing. My father had it back in 1990. I was only 7 and my brother was 2. I remember one day my dad was fine and the next he wasnt. He lost all kinds of weight and got so sick so fast. Luckily his brother was a perfect match and donated is bone marrow. If it wasnt for him I dont think my dad would have made it. He had his done in Seattle Washington. I remember having to wear a mask when we were around him so that we didnt get him sick. Any germs would make him really really sick which was no good. And I remember that he lost all his hair even his eyebrows. It has now been 18 years and he hasnt had it come back thank god. He does still have alot of problems like headaches. He has to take a few medications on a daily basis to keep him going. I also know that because of the radiation from chemo his teeth went bad. He recently had to have them pulled out and had to get dentures. Other than the few aches and pains he is doing great. Your right about a support group. It helps big time to have others who know what you went through or are going through the same thing. I dont know how my mom did it. I guess she had us to care for and stayed strong for us. I hope all continues to go well for you and that you stay cancer free!!! Its a long tough road but with support from friends and family and of course us here at mylot you will get better and stronger everyday. I wish you all the best!
