Did you know that "Patience" is a skill?

There is good news..."If you don't consider youself a patient person, you can become one with a little practice." At the grocery store, wait in the longest checkout line...Or when your child is crying, try quietly holding him rather than rushing to make him stop.... "You will learn that patience gives you vision." "When you are patient you tend to see things that you would have otherwise missed..--..like your childs emotional needs rather than the annoyance on the surface." Be patient and see the world around you... Are you a patient person? I am and then I'm not...just depends... With everything that goes on in our lives, I can see how our patience would wear thin...It is not as easy as it sounds....

I always knew that patience was a virtue, but I didn't know it was a skill. I'm not the most patient person, though it depends a lot on the situation, and my mood. I have actually improved quite a lot in the years since my son has been born, and my wife often comments on how differently I act in situations now, as compared to 5 years ago. I guess maybe I have already started learning that skill.

I like mechanical things and technical things, I'm just not that keen on doing that sort of thing if someone's hanging over my shoulder. Let me know if you ever do become a patience master, I'll need your training manual! If I had the patience to read it, LOL!

If you ask my husband he will say I have no patience...I don't have patience for mechanical things...I am always saying, "nothing should be this hard." so I give up and he fixes it...but when it comes to my grandsons, I have alot of patience..It gets tested but for the most part I am patient with them...I don't know that I will ever become the patience Master...but that is okay...

Yes and no.... Sometimes it all depends if I know I have other things to do I will do them in a faster way to get everything done.. I won't wait in the longest line at the store to get checked out, I just won't do that takes to long... See I'm not as patient as I really should be.. My husband is always telling me to slow do and be just that.. Yeah right I learned it from my parents..

I know what you are saying..especially if I'm running behind or something of that nature...then everything has to speed up to get it done...Half the time I just say, oh well, it can get done tomorrow...LOL...and who now adays has the time to wait in the longest checkout...like we have that much time...especially with kids...

Yeah if i were to say I'll do that tomorrow it doesn't happen for a few days after wards.. I'm like oh yeah I was suppose to do that yesterday... I can be so forgetful at times... Yes having kids in the store and having to wait forever in a line isn't a good thing cause then they are running around bored out of there little minds... lol

It's a very interesting discusion and I 'm happy to knoe a few facts about patience. I don't have patience at all but after marriage, situations are forcing me to be patient and wait for the things to happen on their own.

Sometimes waiting is all we can do..It can be tough but if we wait the outcome can be alot nicer...

Yes i do believe that patience is a skill. It is something that we can put to action or not. We all have some kind of patience. I think that being patient is very good for us as humans. Sometimes when we move to quick, we end up facing some serious problems. So that is why we as people need to be strong minded you know. But I will say that patience is a skill. You either activate it or not.

Hi Des, I liked the way you explained it...and I do agree that if we move to quickly, we would end up worse off....

I was unaware that patience was a skill. HAHA I actually thought it was inherited!! It sounds silly but I always thought you were either born with it or you weren't. I'm glad to hear that I can practice and get better at it. I guess I just never gave it a chance! Thanks for the info!! That makes me feel a lot better! Maybe I can actually change! haha

Now don't you worry..I can understand with 2 little ones that your patience runs pretty thin sometimes...and that is normal...

I have to say that as I get older I become more patient I tend not to fret about the things I can't change anymore (like long lines though working in Walmart I can at least avoid the cashiers that I know are slow haha the shortest line isn't always the quickest!. The funniest thing is that I tend to get most impatient and lose my cool over my husbands irrational impatience lol he has the shortest fuse with other idiocy of anyone I have met but as I learn he will never change I guess I'll grow more patient with that too.

I am really patient. but, the problem is sometimes patience will not lead the results you want. I mean patience to get nothing in the end is not patience, it is simply a waste of time. if you are standing in a row, you know that your turn is gonna come this is why you wait and be patient. but in other cases this turn will never ever come. the bottom line is being patient is good if you know where you are heading to. I like this discussion.
