So my family is possibly going to be getting rid of a family home that has been in our family for several generations dating back to 1890. There is obviously alot of mixed feelings here. It is a beautiful victorian style house. The problem is the neighborhood has been deteriorating. There are several drug dealers in the area, and the area has gotten dangerous and uncomfortable. People have tried to break in, have stolen things, people are up to no good intentions, there was even a knife fight outside the house! It is extremely sad, as I have several fond memories of beautiful holidays and family events there. Part of me feels like I am letting the past generations down by parting with the home that has been part of our family for so long. The neighborhood did not start getting bad until the last 20 years, so it was not always a bad place to be, in the past it was a very nice place to call home. If this home was in a nicer area, it would probably be worth a lot of money due to it's unique style and grand size. Has anyone ever parted with a family home and how did you cope without feeling so sad about letting go of something that is such a part of you?
