Can you go one day without complaining, I challenge you?

One time on Oprah there was a show about how most people find it hard not to complain on a daily basis. This guy (can't remember his name) started this thing, where you put this purple wrist band on one of your hands and everytime you complain you switch it over to the other hand. It was to make you realise how often you complain in a day. He actually gave one million of these wrist bands away to several countries, it was a very popular concept. So see if you can do it, can you not complain about anything for one day. If you can put a bracelet or hair tie around one hand, see how many times you change it over to the other hand in one day. I bet some people change it over 20 times. It would be alarming if you realised how many times you complain in one day. I know I am guilty of it. You can't even complain about the weather, lol, if you say gee it is hot today, that is a complaint. Get back to me and let me know, if you are keen for the challenge.

I think I cannot go for the challenge. Lately, I have a lot of things goin on, been so so busy, in fact I haven't log in on myLot for couple of days due to heavy workloads and this will continue for the rest of the month even couple of months! Lots of changes in the office which gets me stressed out (ooppss am I complaining already) I have read a quote from Benjamin Franklin about this complaining- it says- Constant complaint is the poorest sort of pay for all the conforts we enjoy. Makes sense...

Heh, reminds me of a quote by a Thomas Fuller, a British clergyman and writer; "We are born crying, live complaining, and die disappointed."

Sorry to hear you could not participate in my challenge, maybe another time when you don't have such a busy workload. Good quote, i think I understand it.

I don't believe I complained today. I was home alone and basically watched TV most of the time. :P

This is a really good thing to ask people to do. It's a lot harder than it sounds too! I'm going to try this. It might sound funny, but I don't complain half as much as my fiance. She's gotten so much better about it, but I've always been the person she vents to. I love talking to her, but it's constantly filled with her complaints in our conversations. I'm going to tell her about this discussion and have her do the bracelet thing just for kicks. I know it'll really show her what's going on. I'm going to do it. Thanks for the challenge. I know I need it, too, but I'm all about helping her succeed too. It'd be really good for us if we both did this experiment. I'm going to share it with my coworkers too. I think this discussion needs to be read by everyone. Thank you for posting this great idea. It will be extremely effective.

No problem, how did you go with the experiment. I see you posted this response a week ago. How many times did you each complain? Did your coworkers try it? So far in this discussion copperkitten is winning with only 6 complaints in one day, did you get less complaints then that in one day? My parnter at the moment is also complaining alot. It can become a bit frustrating all the negativity.

I will play...I will do this tomorrow. I have some errands to run. Just to clarify, it is still complaining if no one hears you...?

Goodie, another participant in my challenge, so far the winner is 6 complaints in one day. See if you can go less then that. Yes it is still complaining if noone hears you, you hear yourself, lol, no cheating now. Good luck, waiting eagerly for your results.

I totally forgot to do this until about 9 at night (when I was complaining about something...) I have written a note to put on my cappuccino machine so I will see it first thing. I will check in tomorrow night with my "score".

Suggesting is a good alternative to complaining, lol. Except suggesting does not work for complaining about the weather. Thanks for your response. So let me know if you pass the challenge and do not complain all day. Keen to see if someone can do it. I have not complained, yet, touch wood.

Good to hear, let me know how you go. Writing on tissue, well that is one way to complain, lol. I guess that would help you keep your cool. Thanks for your response.

hi kiran i'm a culprit for complaining too but at the same time do try not to-the main things i complain about are my children and how expensive food etc is-weather i'm not too bad with as i beleive that the earth needs the rain and the sun however hot and disaterous it may be is needed as mother nature has a way of dealing with the earth-though i think i will try the wristband test it 'll be interesting to see how many times i do complain your friend littleowl

Hi littleowl, I know it is very hard not to complain particularly about expenses, I also complain alot about that at the moment. Today I must have complained already about 10 times to my partner about all the bill piling up, lol. Let me know how you go with the wristband test. Copperkitten above, made 6 complaints in a day, that was pretty good, see if you can go under that my friend. Look forward to hearing back from you.

If I put a hair band on my wrist and did this, it would be swopped that many times that the band would snap! I do complain a lot, probably about silly things too. I will give it a go tomorrow, if I remember about it and then I will come back and let you know. I bet I forget!

Yes I totally understand, I have three kids in my house, well 4 actually if you count my partner (he can be big kid at times), lol. It is extremely difficult, I find I am constandtly nagging about not cleaning up or not listening. Some days I try to stop myself from complaining, I sound like broken record, lol.
