How would one define "insanity"?

A father who was left to mind baby daughter while mother was out has been charged with having put his baby in a Microwave, but also previously having put her in the freezer. His excuse was he was in a loveless marriage and was "stuck" looking after the child! This child is still having treatment after surviving tis ordeal (one wonders what affect it will have!) How far do some go?

I am sorry caramello I don't think that is insanity , that is an evil, spoiled child who should be locked up and never be allowed to hurt another defenceless child again! xxx

I tried to do a link about the story with no success....but he has just been given 25 years! I too did not think he was insane as he was trying to prove, he knew what he was doing!

25 years does not sound long enough but better than some get for (if there could be) something worse! Hopefully this child will grow up and not be too affected by this, but seems unlikely.

I am glad that he has been put in prison for a long time - it should have been longer! xx

that is so digusting.to use a defenseless child as a weapon because he was in a loveless marriage.i don't know if this guy is insane or not,but he definately needs to be locked up and the key thrown out.i have heard of a lot of bad stories about children being hurt, but this is the worst.cheers sue

It appears the best word to use in these cases as they try to say they didn't mean to almost like saying..."the devil made me do it!" or something along those lines. If he was angry for whatever reason this is a very poor way of dealing with this anger and his rights as a father should be taken away from him as should his freedom.

You know how they say in Australia that... "Being given a driving licence is a priviledge... not a birth right"... The same should be said about having children. There are a huge number of people who are not fit to be parents... and they should be sterilise. As far as that person is concern... it is a toss up between insanity and irresponsability. And when you look at his excuse for doing it... he is obviously selfish and irresponsible. He talks about "loveless marriage"... But love is a two way street. He obviously has no love for his child... and if he treats his wife the same way than he treats his child... it is no wonder that he is in a loveless marriage. I think it is stupidity bordering on insanity. The guy needs to get himself an education... because he obviously did not get one from his parents.

Yes Aussie there sounds like some obvious lack in his way of thinking to do such an inhumane thing to an innocent child, but hopefully his stint in prison will give him time to think about what he has done.

omg how horrible! do you have a link to this story? ive not heard anything about such a cruel act! like the person above said.."he was in a loveless marriage and was stuck" he isnt insane,he came to a spiteful, cruel, inhumane conclusion based on his current situtation! you say "previously having put her in the freezer" does that mean that there was a previously reported incident? or that the mother told police that he had done something before?

Sorry Cinder but am not having much luck putting in the link! He has been given 25 years now after trying to plead insanity. And apparantly the "freezer" part happened on the same day!

That happened in my state (the court proceedings that is) and I believe he will be serving 8 years in prison? Or was it like 25 years? I don't remember. I know that his excuse at the beginning of the trial was that "God told him to do it."

I read that is would be 25 years lancingboy, but I maybe wrong as if this did happen in your state you would have first hand news on it and sometimes things get misconstrued along the pipeline.

I think many people would agree on him being insane afterall most people would never dream of harming a child in anyway. Its probably hard to disprove though i think as lets face it putting a child in a microwave to normal people would seem insane I do think though theres simply some people out there who get a thrill out of harming others but look for the easy way out again its trying to prove that he isnt insane rather than provong he is as his actions do not speak of a sane person. Personally I think wether insane or not you should always do the punishment fitting of the crime

It does sound like something we would class as an insane person doing, but apparantly after he did it he was sorry and his excuse was he was "angry!" So what easier target to take out your anger on than an innocent child! 25 years is not a bad sentence and gives him a lot of time to think about what he has done.

This is twisted, but not insane. If the court rules him insane he will get a cozy room with a view, and meds to keep him happy. This man deserves to rot in a cement box and get beat by fellow inmates till he realizes he is nothing! Its sick and wrong, and the whole insanity issue needs to get kicked out of the system. Everyone makes their own decisions, wether they are well in the mind or not. If he's insane, give him the meds he needs, but punish his crime!
