The 'Emboldenment Effect'

United States

Harvard University is not exactly known for being an apologist for Republicans, President Bush, or the USA's efforts in the War on Terror. Yet, even still, when researchers at Harvard took a look to document if negative reporting of the USA's war efforts in Iraq had any affect on the enemy's efforts in Iraq, the study found that it did. In short, MSM negative reporting 'gave heart' and 'emboldened' the enemy in Iraq as measured by increased attacks and increased USA casaulties. You can read more here. There is a link to the orginal study at the linked article. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB120646669169962809.html?mod=Best+of+the+Web+Today What do you have to say about this?

Why does it take a study to conclude the obvious? Every time someone makes a statement against the war in Iraq it helps the enemy and supports their efforts. It makes things more difficult for our troops. It is called giving "aid and comfort to the enemy", and it used to be considered an act of treason. We see this a lot here on MyLot, and many other places as well... where people will say all kinds of things against the war in Iraq and against Bush because of it, and then try to claim that they support the troops. If they truly supported the troops they would keep their opinions to themselves, because every time they launch into one of those mindless diatribes they are making our troops jobs that much harder, and they are delaying our leaving Iraq because of the resultant extra violence that they have encouraged. I'm surprised that Harvard even released these findings considering their political leanings.

I'm guessing Harvard thought they would be gathering proof people claiming anti war news coverage hurt the war effort were wrong. Fortunately, the Harvard researchers were honest enough to report their findings anyway. BTW: It is strongly suspected there is a psych war effort on the internet in support of jihad that is conducted even at the level of forums. Look for what appears to be knowledgable amiable persons who are very reasonable and logical, except when it comes to interpreting facts concerning Muslims, Islam, Muslim countries or anything to do with Islam. The strategy is to establish creditablility in all other areas of discussion to get readers use to the idea the writer knows what he is talking about. This makes it easier to slip in the disinformation and have it accepted.

Absolutely, it is nothing short of a propaganda campaign. I equate the people that do this as being the modern versions of Hanoi Jane and Lord Haw Haw, with the exception that their intention was to discourage our troops directly. These outbursts not only discourage our troops but also serve to encourage the enemy, and is thoroughly despicable.

Someone with a thrid grade education could figure out that when the press is against something, the press more the most times wins. So if our press is against the war, the war is going to have a hard time succeeding. Is the press has the right to report whatever they want to, but please quit telling us that you are not partisan.
