Text Messaging is now considered an "addiction"

Okay so first they just recently, decided that a Weboholic is a medical condition requiring assistance....possibly considered a disability. http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1448200.aspx Now, I hear on the news....text messaging is the "up and coming" addiction! I can't believe it. They showed one girl and her mother saying that they took the daughter off text messaging for 3 days and she went bezurk not being able to text message. Why do they have to have a medical reason for everything we do? I mean, life is life and we do things in life and life requires us to do things...is there a reason we don't have to be responsible for things we do - whether by mistake or obsession?

OH geesh that doesn't even surprised me LOL The way kids = and adults too - use text messaging, with kids with over 4000 text messages a day, it should really go under the heading of addictions. My daughter is/was one of them. I am happy to say that her phone lost the screen a few weeks back and she has survived LOL

LOL ANd for the record I was too tired when I wrote this, apart from the spelling mistakes I also had other. I meant 4000 messages a month hehehehe But yeah, she's surviving without her text messaging and even without being able to know who's calling her until she answers - the old fashioned way hehe

I had a related discussion I started about my daughter. She was at my house one day and doig whatever with her cell phone then announced "I just hit 6,000 text messages". I'm not a texter, and seldom use the cell phone she got me, but I said "Huh?" she said, she has just reached 6,000 messages -sent and received for the month. Still, 3,000 sent nad 3,000 received! Holy gucamole! How does she even have that much to say! But then again, you can't say much on a text msg.. often it takes a couple messsages for just a single simple "conversation". I mean, let's see. Msg 1 sent - Are you ready to go? Msg 2 received - no, give me a few more minutes. Msg 3 sent - how about I be there in an hour Msg 4 received - okay, but just wait out in the car and honk Msg 5 sent - okay, see you then Msg 6 received - oh and don't forget to bring the the stuff we need Msg 7 sent - oh, yeah, glad you reminded me of that! I had forgotten Msg 8 received - I got your back! Okay, I am tired just doing this! But I guess 6,000 a month when you actually look at the facts ..it isn't that many if you are "talking" as you woulda phone! JUst takes longer!

It is absolutely amazing what a person can get along with if they have to do without it for awhile!

I think it is stupid too, and yeah something else will come up. Ergo the why? I remember when email was the addiction de-jour! Why cant they just let it be the curent fad and move on instead of making it a medical issue.

Absolutely, people need to start taking responsibility for their actions. I think this world has come to feel sorry for people instead of making them stand up and do the right thing.

Yep, no matter what you do there is a medical reason you don't have to take responsibility for it when it goes bad or a "politically correct" reason one doesn't have to take responsibility for it.
