What Gives With These Narrow MInded People Anyway?

Okay another rant here. I'm so friggin fed up with people cramming their religious views and quoting scripture.
Here's the scenario...I happen to subscribe to YouTube and found many videos that have Eckhart Tolle the author of A New Earth discuss his various viewpoints similar to what he writes about in his book and I have him on my favorites list. Well underneath YouTube videos one can discuss or leave comments what they think of the video. So in one of the Tolle videos this one person is leaving comments that got me rolling my eyes up in angst. Here's a copy/paste of the person's words
(quote)
.."eckhart tolle is a deceiver. he is preparing millions to embrace the coming antichrist. Jesus warned us of those that would come using His word, but were of deceiving spirits. tolle is a wolf in sheeps clothing. his peace and safety will lead to a sudden destruction.
tolle will introduce you to demonic spirits through his exercises. the blood of Jesus is your only hope. .."
Like WTF?? So I left a reply..no not flaming or anything like that but very diplomatic...but yikes this one won't let up and then she starting rattling on about judgment day and how only a few will go to heaven and yada, yada, yada.
I'm sorry, but crap like this really gets to me...I mean come on..Tolle preparing the way for the Anti-Christ?? There have been so many others who have written spiritual viewpoints precisely like Tolle, since what he's saying in his books and his lectures isn't exactly new stuff here..so what??...were all these other people paving the way for the Anti-Christ too? Is the Dahlai Lama's wisdom and philosophy paving the way for the Anti-Christ, was the love and peace Mother Teresa exhibited paving the way for the Anti-Christ? What the hell gives with these people anyway? Is ANYONE who has a brain and can show and demonstrate real compassion, love, honesty, and wisdom people paving the way for the Anti-Christ? I mean GIVE ME A BREAK!

hi pyewacket-i totally agree with you there are too many people quoting scripture, hell fire and damnation because of other people who are good writers and good people with a different faith-and who are these people to think yet even say these things about others bringing the anti-christ? it annoys me as much as you-these people who believe in the scriptures need to really do some questioning of their faith as they are not all there anyway and if they were it would they would change the course of christianity-your friend littleowl

An odd thought just came to me...suppose, just suppose instead of Christ's teachings it was a person with a "different" name, say "Avatar" and people followed him...and preached "his" gospel...then suppose someone came along and his name was Eckhart Christ (hehehe)..but Christ...get it??...would the followers of Avatar think that "Christ" was paving the way for the Anti-Avatar??..I know sounds dumb but can you see what I'm trying to say here??

Thank you so very much for your rant, I couldn't have worded it any better myself. There are people that are so stuck on their blind faith that their ears and hearts are closed, it is a pity that we can not live and let live rather than trying to convert the world to a blind faith experience. Well done and well said

I was told by a born again Christian, who was the worst person I ever had the misfortune to meet, that even thought they can make mistakes in their own life, for every person they get to convert their sins are washed away. I told her, I hoped that she wasn't counting on me to help her along
She was to say the least responsible for harm done to a lot of people.

Why thank you RobinJ
What aggravates me, why do they think that all people have to convert to their way of thinking, their beliefs when we already have our own??

Sadly there are some that no matter what is said if it isn't from the Bible or Jesus then it's not any good. It's dangerous and what not. I cannot understand that mentality myself but some people I suppose have to feel that the bible and Jesus are the only truth out there. I actually feel a bit sorry for them. That they cannot see or understand that others can share the same wisdom and be able to show different points of view without being evil.
I don't blame you for getting upset by them either. It can be very frustrating at times. I hope though the rant helped to ease some of it. If I'd been a part of the discussion as well I'm sure my dander would have been up as well. Probably a good thing I wasn't then huh? :)

Oh yeah they are going to start praying over you and trying to save you from eternal damanation. I can just picture it. I've seen similar happen. Oh well you could offer to save their soul and see what they think

It seems to be fairly prevalent everywhere now Pye, you only have to look at some of the comments placed on discussions here to see this. I have always felt that "to each his own" is the best way to live but I do resent being preached at by those who feel driven to impose their beliefs on others.

I guess people no longer have to stand on street corners anymore to preach the gospel...they now do it wherever they can on the internet, right?

Hi pyewacket, I feel the same way. Honestly there have been times when I became so angry that I couldn't write a response at the moment for fear of what I might say. I had to relax for a few minutes. I am getting better at handling these situations though, thanks to people like Tolle. There have been people in every generation who have been called the Anti-Christ, and I'm sure that it will continue. Eckhart Tolle is doing a great deal of good in the world, and helping many people. There are others as well and such people give me new hope. Blessings.

Yes, in some ways I think we may have had our share of Anti-Christ...how about someone like Hitler or any extreme dictator responsible for the deaths of many? Want to hear something funny though..I went back to that Tolle video and looked at the further comments made..of course my preaching "friend" had more to say, but someone else chined in and defended me..not only that, I noticed that my remarks all have plus ratings while she/he had negative..LOL

the other thing we don't do is preach our belief and try and brainwash them to believe in our way of living-so why should we have to put up with them doing it to us
maybe we should do it to them and see how much they like it..littleowl

Maybe you did not notice...
But there are quite a few people on myLot whose idea of answering a question... is to copy and paste a whole page from the bible.
Those people actually never use their brain for anything. Their bible has all the answers... and they use it as a manual to go through life.

No fortunately I've been blessed in not coming across people here who copy/paste who pages from the bible--guess I'm lucky, no? But have come across folks that use the bible as a manual without opening up their minds to any other concepts or ideas

That's it. They aren't narrow minded , they have no mind at all. Why? Because they don't get that there are many religions on this earth and many points of view within each religion. And to trash someone else's view is impolite and just stupid. It won't make them change their religion . It just makes You look bad.And if you are the only person they know that practices your religion, then you religion looks bad too.

Heh, I found a nice little video that beautifully illustrates how the Creationist vs Atheist debates turn out.

I sense it in our words. You are evil. You are lost. You deserve no respect. I will pray for you and hope you abandon your heretic ways.
... is what I'd say if I were a Fundamental Christian. :)
Well, I say, you can't blame them. They've been indoctrinated with that nonsense ever since birth. They can't turn away from it since it's all they've ever really believed in.

What's amusing is that many of these fundamentalist are recent converts, and converts always tend to be over-zealous, right?

Yeah, no fooling.
You can be the most giving, loving, compassionate person in the world and if you don't believe the way some of these narrow minded folks believe, you are going straight to H*ll.
What a turn off. That kind of attitude is what turned me away from the Christian Church.
I had an old friend of mine tell me that exact thing a few weeks ago. If a person doesn't believe in Jesus, then they have no way to enter Heaven. She also said no one would ever change how she feels.
Ok, fine, but show me the same respect and don't try to change how I feel.
If you don't believe in Christ..how can you believe in the Anti-Christ?
Can you say brainwashed?
Even Mother Teresa had doubts.

I just think they are brainwashed Pye.

Each of us have different opinions and realizations with regards to the word of God. I think it's a matter of understanding the view points of others. So it's their opinion, well we cannot do anything about it as long as we know what we believe in and what is right for us.

Yes we do all have various opinions and realizations, but it does seem stretching it to call a person like author Tolle (or anyone) a person paving the way for the Anti-Christ

OMG I feel the same way. I CANNOT stand people that base everything in their lives on "what the bible says" and stuff of the sort. What proof do they have that the bible and God are "Right?"

I know there is no proof of anything, yet people like this take every single word as a reality without stretching their minds to learn more viewpoints that do exist

I am christian too but I do not read crap from fanatical radicals, christian radicals are no better than radicals of any religion though they would like to think so.
