I believe it is a fundamental basic right especially for our grade school system. We as citizens have the right to be productive citizens in society and this won't be possible if we don't have education first. Yes, some people take this for granted but still this shouldn't be taken away or watered down because of it. For people who believe education is a priviledge probably considering college level education or some who wish to do away with the Dept. of Education.

Education (for me - in UK) is foremost a right, but of course it's a privilege too. Though of course for many peoiple in the world it is just a privilege. Like girls in Afghanistan for example - it's the ultimate privilege which often they pay (in fear and lives) to have. It's a sad fact but one day maybe it will be everyone's right.

I believe education is a right. Even more, I think we are obligated to teach our children. . .not just the school stuff, but I believe we have an obligation to teach them important things about society.

It not only is a right but an obligation. Even if you can not go all the way to collage you must keep on educating yourself. Read a book, watch the education channels, look around and watch the world. The most used brain last the longest.

Education is definitely a right, but sadly in some parts of the world it is a privilege. It is hard to survive in the world without knowledge and that should be reason enough to make education a right.

It's in your best interest, both of them. Must make the best use of education benefits, an learn. Rights become a privilege; There are some places in the word, where you won't find any of them.

i think it is a right. we parents or our parents or parents needs to give their children a good education that is their childrens right. just like shelter and clothing. it is a priveledge if you are a scholar or if your parents cant or has no money for your education then some one else will pay for your schooling then for me that is a privilege

I think that education is definately a privilege. I think way too many kids in the United States do not treat it as such, and they really should be thankful for what they do receive.

i think it is a privilege...this is america and everyone should have the right to choose what they want to do with their life. if people dont want an education, then they should go for a regular ordinary job and live their way...whatever makes them happy. while the educated or people who are interested in education should be able to go as long as they want to do whatever they want to do. it is a choice...and i am ProChoice...

For me education is a right. Its something that defines a human being. Education at a certain period of time is always beneficial. It may be difficult for some to get through it, but this does not mean that everyone has to hold a PhD. But basic education is indeed a right, and everybody should possess it.
