Ok we all know that discussing religion can be a big taboo and get everyone up in arms so here I am doing what I said I would never do and it's really not a religous debate persay.. It's just a question on how you feel about a statement that was a quote from one of my favorite movies.
Here is the quote from Dogma..
Serendipity: When are you people going to learn? It's not about who's right or wrong. No denomination's nailed it yet, and they never will because they're all too self-righteous to realize that it doesn't matter what you have faith in, just that you have faith. Your hearts are in the right place, but your brains need to wake up
So what are your feelings on this statement?

This is a good line from a great movie.
I feel it says a few things actually.
People need something to believe in but don't really know what they believe in, if they even believe in it, and how to believe in it. Say that 5 times fast.
Many religions fault those who believe differently than they do while refusing to see that their "religious truth" isn't everyone else's truth nor is it the only faith. Basically, it shows how one sided that some religions can be.

Very insightful. Next time I go and need someone with great insight I'm taking you and Spark and Nova. LOL!!!! Your right people do need something to believe in they just take it for granted that faith alone is not enough. LOL!!

I claim no religion. I haven't been to church since I was a child and then not with any regularity. I am a known for my penchant for smut here on the Lot. If I told you how much faith I have within me, you could hear people hitting the floor all over the place. But it's true - don't let it get around, but I have huge faith. Now, you ask, faith in what? Well, let's just say, faith in goodness, in something greater than myself, in spirits of my ancestors, in human nature, faith that there is god within every one of us, faith that there is a point to life and a reason for being. That's just for starters. And I rather agree with the quote, Bella. It says it pretty well.

yep I have to say that this quote says it most eloquantly. LOL!!! I have faith .. I also truly believe that not one religion has it right. I believe that the power that be comes to us in what ever form we are most accepting. If you look at the religion you will see that most have a common tie somewhere.

Actually bella i am a christian and I have a lot of faith but I do kind of agree with that statement quite a lot! I think there is a link between many religions, I also think most have some of the truth but none of them are perfect! Notice I said religion and not faith - faith to me is your beliefs and religion is the organised side of that , which is all too often very politicised! Get down to basics , love each other start respecting and tolerating each others beliefs and cultures - surely that is the basic tenet of all religions which too many people seem to forget! xxx

The truth is, I rarely respond to discussions relating to religion. I don't know but I just don't want to deal about something which practically is an open-ended issue or question. With regards to the quote, I do agree with it. Everyone would definitely end up defending their own religious group. I am pretty sure that no one would ever say that their's is the most inferior.

First of all I don't think religion is a mylot taboo. I stuck it right into the same discussion with politics and abortion and I'm still alive to talk about it :)
But I think this movie quote is right on the money and it is why I don't consider myself bound and gagged to any one religious belief or denomination.
I believe. I have faith. What ever god wins out at the end of my life should be satisfied by this alone. Not how much money I put in the collection plate every Sunday, not how many Hail Marys and Our Fathers I have said in my life time, not how many times I have prayed towards Mecca, not how many scared cows I consumed...just the fact that I believe there is some power greater than me out there that has a hand in everything should be sufficient. If it's not, oh well, at least I lived my life how I wanted to live it and what I felt was best for me. Not what some book, holy scripture, or two stone tablets told me to do.

I think your are right there with me I have faith and it my faith that I hold to.. No amount of money that I put in the collection plate is going to save my soul I can only do that and you know many religions don't realize it or want to accept it but they all have similarities.

The statement is absolutely correct! The whole point is the faith not the name of a group of people of whom associate with one another. Now that you have posted my quote that I loaned to this movie, will you join my church? Donations are only $50 a week and I give really short sermons. I figure if I can get a congregation of only 100 people, I too can live high on the hog, tax free.
JOIN NOW! Church of D11RGUY. Our motto: "We dig it deeper."
