One word answers..and stuff

Does it bother you when people post discussions that consist of one sentence or respond to your discussion with one word or sentence? It does bother me because I'm on here for QUALITY discussions and to learn about things, other people, learn new things and ask questions. So yes, I want decent discussion out of it! I dont understand how people can earn based off of one sentence answers and posts. Its obvious that they are not here for friendships. (And yes, this is from a discussion I answered earlier.. I thought more about it and wanted to elaborate) I can understand responding to someones comment on a post or on your own posts, and thats okay, but if you're not going to READ what I take the time to write and comment with "blah blah blah", then don't read me at all!! Or if you are answering someones discussion, then answer with a response relevant to the actual discussion. Ugh! Its just frustrating. And I needed to vent. And now I feel better.. I guess. Haha.

Well at least you got it out of your system. To topic: Yes it does bother me. What really gets me is people who respond completely unrelated to the discussion (and usually with one sentence)... and these people have 8, 9 and 10 stars. -_- Meanwhile little old me can write for paragraphs and paragraphs and still no fitting star rating. Sigh... Despite your fears, there are people actually reading this Lepp. There are also people who can answer you with more than just a sentence or one word.

The unrelated responses to my discussions bother me too. I had one mylotter comment the same exact way on 3 of my posts in a row, totally irrevelant to what I was discussing. Thanks programer, I appreciate the support.

It's not only annoying but it's also against the mylot guidelines. They state: Discussions like “What’s your age” will be deleted as well as short responses like “ok” or “no”. Along with: Post "Me Too!" messages; add something of substance to the conversation. When I see responses that are only one word or a couple of words it means to me they haven't read anything. They are just trying to earn some pennies but they don't realize that such responses do not earn them very much. If they took the time to read and respond accordingly they would actually fair far better.

You're welcome. There are some great members here at mylot. Like with anything though you do get a few bad apples in the barrel but I have noticed they usually do not stay around for too long. Don't get discouraged. There are a lot more good posters then bad ones.

Yes it is a bit annoying, I sometimes struggle to make more than a few sentences to something sometimes, but if I thought that I could only answer with one word I probably would not bother. Well actually did answer with 2 words to something yesterday but that was only because there was just no way I could make a decent responce to the question asked!!

And I can definitely understand responses at times like that. It makes sense to post a short response if you have nothing to add to it. I agree!

yes it does bother me and for example one of my responders answered with a yes and another with a hmmm whatever that meant.I try to give as good a complete response as I can muster and would wish others to give me that same sort of response. I think a lot of those short answers come from someone who is too busy doing whatever to actually read all of our discussions and comes up short on what it was all about so they just take a guess and put down yes,or uh huh.hope you do feel better.

Oh yes, Hatley, I've gotten the Hmmmm one before too. And it drives me batty. I feel like saying don't even bother to respond to me! I do feel better after reading that the general response to this has been that they feel the same way as I do. Thanks for your response.

It really depends what they say in those few words but yes on the whole I do agree with you. I really want to read other people's opinions and when someone starts a discussion I think they should include their own views and reasoning. I also find it difficult to add comments to one sentence responses posted in my discussions. I don't let it bother me too much though. When I see discussions and posts with three or four words in them, I just think it's not worth doing and those people will not earn money for participating at myLot.

Thanks paid2write. I know that I need to move on with it, it felt better to vent. Appreciate your response.

I don't mind it. Sometimes I myself only have a short sentence to say (although I try to make it at least two or three). But I agree that this site isn't really the place for that. I would say that that's only suitable for spam boards (fun!), but there are a few other websites i've been to that are good places to do that at.

Well to elaborate on my frustration, I have a commenter who posts Hmmm as their response to my discussion. How can that be helping anyone? I do agree that sometimes one line or a short sentence is a sufficient response. Thanks for your input.

I just actually started seeing that today from a few newbies on that have just joined... I am sure they don't know but alot of people aren't going to answer in just one word at least I know I'm not going too.. I am going to make it a page lol just kidding.. No really though it is annoying that's for sure and it's just that they don't what to really ask I guess one word answers just isn't going to help anyone, Not even them... Just my oppion!!

I don't like getting a one word answer either and yes I think that you are right and these people won't make any money or be of any help if your post is asking for help. What bothers me even more than just a one word answer is when I look and the person says, "I don't Know." And that's all that they have to say, I don't know. I always think that if a person takes the few seconds to write that why waste my time and theirs. There are a lot of discussions posted on here where people ask for help with a certain subject and if I have no idea how to help I sure as heck won't waste my time by bringing up the discussion and then telling tham that I don't know. I would feel a little foolish doing that.

i'm totally be with you. but i don't mind or be bothered. because you can get what you want from others. maybe there are a lot of reasons that they don't give you a quality discussion.maybe they wanna say something, discuss or help, but they have no idea how to express themselves enough. so just don't be bothered or angry with that. i'm completedly here for you.

It does bother me when people don't give quality responses. I'm not really interested in the length of the response as I do know that it is possible to say a lot with a little, but I do hate one word answers or answers that don't match the topic. I'm glad that your vent has made you feel better.

it depends some question only need a one word or one sentence answer. so people arent going to write a novel for a question that is "do you like dogs?" so it really goes both ways. but im glad that you feel better after venting :D and hope that your answers get longer? lol

Its their wish to explain their view in one sentence / word / para. But its important if they have expressed clearly what they wanted to. According to me there should not be too many words which may make people bored while reading. Short and crisp way of explaining is better.

I do agree with that.. however to elaborate on my frustration, I have a commenter who posts Hmmm as their response to my discussion. How can that be helping anyone? I do agree that sometimes one line or a short sentence is a sufficient response, but not a response such as the one above. Thanks for your input.
