Writing A Book?

How many of you PLAN on writing a book in this lifetime? may even have it all figured out what it will be about, most of what it will say, etc.. but how many of you have the same trouble I do, and that is finding the time and the motivation to actually get the thoughts to the paper? Im not sure if mine is as much lack of time, as lack of being afraid of "not being good enough" once it comes time to send to publishers... do any fellow writers know what im talking about? or have any solutions to this they can offer? thanks! Im new on mylot, and just getting started on here, looking to meet others and learn from you all!

Ive developed many good and solid ideas for novels but I have never even attempted writing one.. I think that possibly, my better bet is to create a book of poetry, since that is what I mainly write..

aww yes! I know what you mean, I went thru a stage where that was all I wrote, and I had enough for a book propably, except they were all broken hearted love poems and not enough variety.. what types of poetry do you write?

I plan on writing a book, someday. I'm not scared of not being good enough, but I have motivational problems. I also do not have alot of patients. My advice to you would be to carry a ntoebook around with you, and as soon as you get an idea that might be good for a book, write it down. Eventually you can start creating a story out of it.

Hello, Gypsie! I plan on writting a book in this lifetime. I really would like to write it, and perhaps become famous around the world. No, I have not thought about the subject it might be talking about. And hey, I'm also lazy to put the thoughts into the paper. When I want to make a book, I usually just type it on the computer. However, I am shy if others read my book, and I am afraid that my ideas might not be really good. Therefore, when I finish writting around 30 pages, I simply delete the file and send it all to the trash can. I don't know, when I start writting my mind flies and I put everything I think into the paper. I just fear that somebody can read it and use it against me. Respectfully, Munhozmib.

I always felt like I was meant to write a book so it can be very frustrating when Im feel unproductive, I have a story with like three chapters but got stuck when i wanted to add a new chapter because I need to tie two stories together, how to fill in a gap. I also get these phrases in my head as if Im writing my own autobiography and thought about writing them in a journal as if Im writing my own autobiography, besides they start with your earliest period first anyways but Im gonna have to start carrying around paper (which doesnt feel very natural) because these thoughts come up usually when Im out in public.

I write quite frequently, and I have finished a few novel length pieces. I'm not so sure about one of them, but I'm fairly willing to share the other ones after thorough editing.

I doubt I'll write a book, I'm afraid. I don't really like to physically pull out a pencil and paper and just write. It's different for me on a forum because I'm only typing a few sentences and not really pulling huge ideas together to make an entire book. I guess it depends when I get older. Who knows, I might major in English or something.

Fear is a big reason for writers not finishing what they start. It's also a lot of work. I always had a dream of writing a book. I have written two novels so far and am finding the editing process long and arduous. I still haven't gotten to the point of getting a book published and I am easily discouraged since it takes many revisions to make a story as good as it can be. It's the editing that has me lacking in motivation right now. I did have a short story published in a local magazine. Something like that can really motivate you to get more out there. If you are writing non-fiction it is best to get an agent as publishers don't have time to look at the work of new writers. They are busy with their top selling authors. It's the agent's job to find the publisher and then help with marketing. If you are lucky enough to find a publisher who will look at your work AND publish AND market it, then that is great. A lot of people say there is no such thing as writer's block, it's just fear. I recommend you try and find a writer's group in your area. I have learned so much since I joined a writing group 4 years ago. Check out my article on Triond.com. http://www.quazen.com/Arts/Online-Writing/10-Benefits-of-Joining-a-Writing-Group.49881 If you can't find a writing group, you can always start one. Here is another article I wrote on how to start and manage a writing group. http://www.writinghood.com/Writing/How-to-Start-and-Manage-a-Writing-Group.80233 Keep at it and good luck!

I love to write and I have dreamed of writing my own book for a while now. I just don't feel like I have the patience for even giving it a try. It's just so hard for someone to get their book noticed and I'm also very self conscious about things that I write. When I write, it's usually just a short piece here and there for Associated Content.

I plan on writing many books in this lifetime. LOL. I'm interested in a variety of different fields and have a lot of different projects on the go. Right now I refer to them as "scatter-books". I haven't got much time to sit and write for hours on end. A few minutes here and there every day if I'm lucky. I just grab a piece of loose paper and write what I want on any given subject and when I'm done I put the paper into my "bookbox". About once a month, I go through the box and organize the papers into the folders that I have for each book idea. Eventually I'm going to work through each folder and put it all into order and probably publish online through www.lulu.com or www.cafepress.com.

Yes, I have planned on writing a book in this lifetime. I have actually started a while back but of course I haven't finished it. I do understand what you mean, cause I am actually a little afraid it may not be good enough. But at the same time I find at heart it will be a great read. It's actually kind of about my life but no one truly know its. It's just living a life of an Asian person, but your not quite like every Asian that everyone expects you to be. I love to write personally, but it can be difficult at times, cause I'm really picky with my words and I want everything to be in a sense perfect. But one day I will have it out for the world to read I'm sure of that.

Having previously worked in publishing and the book trade I know how difficult it is for a new author to get into print or for a new book to get known, unless the author is previously well known, either for writing or for some other reason. What amazes me is that so many people think that to write a book they have to write fiction. This is the most competitive market and very few authors will succeed. Even if your novel is published it can soon disappear without trace and never be heard of again. If you write a non-fiction book you can do a lot better, especially if your subject is popular or original.
