Am I the only one who can't stand Oprah???

United States

I was just sitting here watching TV and Oprah is on yet again. I cannot stand her and can't see why everyone idoliizes her so much. I could care less about her book club and what she thinks people should read, I would venture to say if most of these women watch her they aren't avid readers. Who cares who she's voting for? Who cares who dresses her, her clothes and dresses are ugly half the time. Yeah, she opened a school in Africa for girls and didn't monitor it for one. Secondly, the USA is her home and we have school issues and childrens poverty issues here- shouldn't the USA, be her first priority? Who cares what she gives away free? She gets the stuff free anyway? I saw a taping of her show once, I couldn't resist Bono from U2 and she was really witchy to the people working for her. She was conceited as well- that is how she came off. I didn't like her before but I sure didn't like her after the taping. Someone please tell me why this phony is so idolized!!! Do you love her or hate her? Have we had more than enough of Oprah... Thanks for stopping by!

I never really thought of it, I do know I do not care for her show, and would rather watch Dr. Phil... lol, I agree with some of your points, but at least the money she gives is getting given to those who need it. Rich people like her need to save the world. She could easily do more than what she does now, as with all celebs, but she doesn't need to because she probably does more then a lot of other famous people, because she has the money. If that makes any sense.

This makes sense to me, and, as a matter of fact, I agree with you.

I agree with all of you there- LOL. I like Dr. Phil better than Oprah and he is annoying at times. Montel I love actually- too bad his show is done. He's a good guy. Celeb's do need to save the world, they have the resources. Most choose though to hide behind being too busy or just plain don't care and are just in it for themselves. Thanks for the comments!

I think that is silly to say 'Oh, she has all this money and look what she's doing with her money!' who can decide for another person these things, everyone has their personal destiny. I think we as a people need to focus on the things WE can do that makes a difference and not put so much expectation on other because of their better off financially, our lawmakers don't even get things done and often do not have our best interest in mind, its our part to make it happen.

Oprah is a very strong individual. She is also a kind woman. She helps others, and her show is entertaining, motivating, inspirational, and sometimes even funny. She is a leader, and is not afraid to be herself and say what she feels. I think she is great.

Thanks for your comment. Just don't take her at face value. I really think that people love her or hate her and are just plain sick of her. Have a great one!

hi skinny! i don't really hate her, rather i wonder what makes her tick. and if ever, i would like to be like her, in the sense that i would like to have that influence. and the money wouldn't hurt too. anyway, i am not an american so i don't get to watch oprah often. but i know that she is very popular and her words counts for the many women in america. oh well, let us not just patronize her.

She doesn't really use that much influence for anything all that great. She is very popular here to a certain population usually soccer moms and people who believe her bull. She really isn't all that nice. Seems like she has become quite the demanding diva. I think there are better role models out there for women and girls. Oprah's only talent is talking and we could all do that. She really isn't as special as she believes herself to be. If you could watch her more, you would probably see where I was coming from. Thanks for the post!!

SkinnyC, What she does is great, whether its her money or someones elses she is finding folks that need it. Its not just the African school girls think about Katrina. You can not belittle that... You can not take that away from those folks that has benefited from her charities.

I'm not belittling her at all for it. I just wish there were more done here by her. She did ok with Katrina, she has let that go for now, it seems. Though they are still hurting in New Orleans from that. :(

The last time I watched Oprah was when she interviewed Tom Cruise and first did a viewing for the audience of the movie "Interview With A Vampire", the way her and the audience over re-acted to the movie was enough to turn me off her for good. After hearing their responses I saw the movie and couldn't understand why she went on and on about how sick it made her and how upsetting it was. It was just over the top and no need for it. I'm over her "weight loss, weight gain" and I could care less who she is voting for or what books she's recommends. I would not have a problem if they canceled her show tomorrow. In fact what does keep it on the air?

I think the only reason it's still on the air is because she produces it. She uses her own money to pay for it. If not for that I don't think she could find anyone else to pay for it at least not for long.

That is a great question why is it still in the air?? Maybe because there would be a huge uproar...I would pay good money to see that "controversey" it would be hilarious! Thanks for stopping by!

I have to Say SkinnyC that I use to love to see Oprah and hear about her life. Through out the years however I have grown and began to see her as a different person. I do not waste my time with her any longer. But here is the thing. No matter how we may feel about her personally, she demands respect, All of those charities would be nothing with out her. Those children you are saying so what about see her as a Saint for giving them a chance to go to a proper school. WE WE can not belittle that. Nor can we take it away from them. Her money does so much good. This is just like mylot or anything else in life, if you don't like what you are watching, hearing, reading change the channel.

And she is f*ucking feeding and schooling those kids and building homes for humanity.......... Chit what more do you want from one woman? Here in the USIN THE US? what did is she doing after KATRINA?

let me ask you....what did you do for new orleans.... what did you do after katrina?

I do change the channel once I see she is on anymore. LOL My beef with the school is that she has not done that in the USA. America made her rich and she owes America first the way I see it. It may be selfish but hey Americans are selfish in everything else, so why not be selfish in charity too? I'm not insensitive to the African plight. It saddens me that a place so beautiful is so violent. But we have hungry kids here too, we have kids that need education here too. America needs Oprah as well and she doesn't help America or it's children out that way. Thanks for stopping by!

I can tell you that I am DEFINITELY NOT a big fan of Oprah. She makes so much money, she SHOULD be giving lots of it away. I can't say I hate her -- well, yes I can LOL! Oh well, call me mean. And, is she ever going to stay a stable weight? I know many people struggle with their weight, but she has talked about it so much, just get over it already. If she cannot be a size 5, she should be happy with the way she is and portray a positive attitude, and NOT where looks are concerned. We have enough issues with appearance as it is.

Oh Bethany, you are absolutely right! I knew I was forgetting something- the weight...she can bite me there. I love when she talks about it like she did something. Wow- she paid a trainer and a private chef at one of her 50 houses. What advice can she give to us real women again??? Sheesh... Thanks so much for the response.

I love Oprah! Her Big Give is awesome and gives all people an idea for how to "pay it forward" no matter how poor they might be. Think about it, everyone has 5 cents they can put in a charity jar at the grocery store or anyonce can carry their neighbors groceries. We must all do what we can.

Thanks for your opinion. Even though I don't like Oprah, I do respect that. Your absolutely right we should be charitable even in the smallest capacity. Have a great day!

You are preaching to the choir skinny chick! I have said that so many time, especially about the school. I have no problem with her wanting to help her own race, but I am sure she could have found a place for that school here in the states - New Orleans comes to mind! I watched one show where she had a "save money" guru telling all the little things to do to save money - like us living pay check to pay check don't already know, but he said the things like instaed of buying soda out of the vending machine at work, buy a 6-pack at the store for $2 and take a can with you every day. Well, duh! Tel me something I dont' already know! But he mentioned resuing things, like ziplock bags. I do that. Unless the bag had something liquid in it, I will rinse and reuse. But Oprah pops up and says "I do that!" Oh, give me a confounded break! I doubt she is ever in the kitchen much less knows where the cook keeps the ziplock bags! That turned me off to her completely. Am I to belive she makes her multi millions yet still reuses baggies? I think not. But it was just a put down to those of us that do, simply cause we have to out of necessity and common sense. No, I can't stand Homer Simpson, but I'd much rather watch him than Oprah! Makes more sense, and he is an idiot!

That's right - I remember the aluminim foil and paper towel coffee filters. I thought, good grief, 30 years ago my mom did the paper towel coffee filter thing cause she couldn't afford actual filters (this was right after the perculators went into retirement for the Mr Coffee drippers!) And I re use foil, have been for 30 years too!It can be washed/rinsed - to a point. Usually I will only reuse if there is no liquid involved. But foil, often can. I used to tell the kids to bring home their brown paper bags I packed their lunch in, could get a couple days use out of them!

LOL I saw that one...the money saving guy and I had the same thoughts-as I pack up my budget gourmet and cans of GENERIC soda for my days at school..Funny I thought DUH too. I have to agree that Oprah would have no idea about Ziplocs or here's one: Aluminum Foil that isn't gooey. Like if you use it to cover a bowl of left overs, reuse it on a cookie sheet or something. I highly doubt if O has ever had to use a paper towel as a coffee filter or wondered how she was going to make it until the next paycheck- she forgot where and who she came from. Thanks for the response!

I don't like Oprah, never have, never will. I do like Dr. Phil though and I am glad he got his own show out of her. But no I don't watch Oprah nor have I ever nor will I ever. i think that might just be my own private he11. Being stuck in a room for all eternity surrounded by 1000 TVs with Oprah on every channel 24/7.

That's what I think too more people should get stuff out of her. When more people start asking we will see how generous she really is... I don't see her moving poor kids into her Spanish Villa or Hawaiian beach house...Hmmmm...I really can't stand her the more I talk about her.

Wow, I'm not alone! Yeah, I can't stand Oprah either. I've had way more than enough of her holier than thou because I'm so rich attitude. There are much better shows to watch on tv than hers. I'll watch Dr. Phil any day of the week! At least he has good advice and can help people with their problems.

Yeah, Dr. Phil is an actual doctor at least though he has an annoying kind of whiney accent. But I agree about Oprah as well. I actually expected more O lovers in this discussion but it's great to see not everyone is completely taken by her. There is hope for the female world.

i really cant stand Oprah either i feel that she is sooo fake and everything good she does she has planned out and gets back from that "good deed" 10 fold.. and i just really cant stand her at all. People fall victim to her fakness. i remember she gave out cars to everyone and everyone was upset because they couldnt afford to pay the tax.. and specially there was 1 couple that obviously got 2 cars and got screwed over twice as hard.
• United States
30 Mar 08
Yep...cars should have been tax free. The taxes get expensive and she couldn't have shelled out some pocket change? Thanks for the response.

Nope, you're definitely not the only one, skinny! I haven't ever liked her, frankly, and although it's not cool to say so, I'm saying so. I don't see the appeal. And she wields entirely too much power in the world with a voice that reaches millions and millions and I don't trust her as far as I could throw her! She's irresponsible with that power and puts things out there that she hasn't checked thoroughly enough into and has done some real harm, if you ask me, and you did, so there you have it.
• United States
29 Mar 08
The very thing that harmed her happened at her school. But you can't blame Oprah?? She didn't make sure her teachers were screened properly and didn't look at the big picture of opening a school. You would think that she would have been under total control from the very beginning to ensure this would never happen. I guess the whole idea behind the school was more important that what would actually happen when the school became functional. I'm with you my dear Nova. I don't trust her or her empty words either. Thanks for stopping by! :)

Oprah has gone through a rough life and I applaud her for getting out of it what she has, but so have a lot of other people. She's done some good things with her money and notoriety and I respect that as well. That doesn't make her a goddess in my book. I don't really like her as a person, and I don't bow at the sight of her.

29 Mar 08
I agree with you! Oprah really just met the right people at the right time. She has even stated that herself. She is far from a goddess she would have to learn so much more for that. Thanks for the response!

I suppose we all have our likes and dislikes. I must say that I havent seen her show very often - not enough to really make an opinion. I do not like the style ofher type of show so I tend to avoid them.
