Voice altering phone...

Our new phone has a voice altering feature on it. We can make our voice really deep, really high (think chipmunks) or cartoon-ey. My question is...what would be the purpose of this besides 1) illegal activity of some sort...or 2) making people think a man lives in the home by using the deep voice on the machine. (Though if you are that concerned, you can leave the default generic male message on it.) And, while it does have some entertainment value, that lasted all of maybe 5 minutes. Can you think of other legitimate uses for the voice altering feature? I guess I don't understand why it's on the phone...

Wow, I may have to get me one of those phones. I want to say that those phones they have been out for some years now. But it sounds kind of freaky, after thinking about it.

interesting, and how much fun to play with - especially for the kids... but really I agree with you, there is no practical purpose other than fraud and deceit.

I'd love to know the manufacturer and model of your phone, and the price and where it might be available, if possible! I am seemingly being "pone-stalked" by someone who keeps calling and being silent, and I would like to start answering the phone as a male, if possible. It would need to sound authentic, because I don't know who I am dealing with, and I don't want to 'encourage' them by my doing something in response to the calls. Could you tell me a little bit about how well it does a male voice for a female? Does it sound realistic? When I looked into it earlier, I was told there is also always an echo, since you're now no longer hearing your own voice (which you are used to, and so don't notice the phone's delay) -- is that true? I'm so thrilled to have found this discussion, and just appreciate the information so! I can't tell you what it means to me! Happy day to you!

Woops, I just noticed a typo -- it is supposed to be "phone-stalked", not "pone-stalked". My brain seems to have had a hiccup :) Thank you again so very much! Karen
