I actually read that n office desk has 400 times more bacteria than a toilet. Isn't that pretty gross. I would never think that it would have more. But just imagine going to a library. There are always hundreds of people you know that actually visit the library. This is weird.

I didn't really know that...I always just thought that the toilet was about the nastiest place that you could ever go because everyone had sat their butt's on it and then used the bathroom...so I just figrued that it made most sense that that was the nastiest place you could go...but i think that it does make sense now that you have mentioned it because honestly there are alot of people around your desk each and everyday so that really does make sense because they go plaes and then bring their germs back to you.... No, I didn't know that either, but I do know that office telephones hold a lot of bacteria, in the end where you speak and well as the end you put to your ear. I used to keep a spray in my drawer at work, and spray mine ever hour. Brightest Blessings.

If you think the desk is nasty then you have not checked the wallet. What do you think is one of the filthiest thing that everyone would want? The answer: MONEY!!! Many are unaware of it but the money we use are one of the filthiest things we touch everyday. Just imagine how many people have handled your money before you and how many can you guarantee that they are hygienic. Even worse, how many of them are sick? In addition to that, many of us keep our money in our pocket or in the wallet inside our pocket. The high temperature is a breeding paradise for pathogens. Now that I have mentioned this, would you still pick up a ten dollar bill that is lying about? Many will still do so.

You are dealing with your hands and the hands of other people (which go to MANY more places than someone's rear.) People are touching money (one of the top germ sources and shared items)... there is also the handling of goods (also has bacteria), shoes, dusty surfaces, walls, doorknobs, handles... it adds up.

Actually, in a way that does not surprize me. It is quite Grouse when you ask me as well. But when you stop to think about it, how many have been where you are sitting maybe never washed their hands after using the restroom, had a Cold and were sneezing and coughing, there, etc. And unless you wash a Desk or table, etc. and steralize it all of the time, there are always germs lingering there. Yes, this is actually sick when you think about it, but what are you supposed to do... bring something to wipe down areas others have been at all the time, and then hope for the best?

When I didn't have internet connection I would have to go to the library every day to get my internet fix, I hated being without the internet, but needs must, when you are addicted to it and I used to use the library internet computers and when you look at some of the less desirable people there, the dirty ones who use the keyboards, well it doesn't bear thinking about does it, ewwww! Makes you feel dirty just thinking about it but yes it makes you think!

I worked as an office cleaner for a short while. The cleaners were not allowed to clean the computers, and the staff did not either! Is it that difficult to buy some antibacterial wet wipes or get some borax in water and wipe down the keyboard with a paper towel!

I would think it depends on what sort of office the desk is in. A large company office would have cleaners in every day and the desks would be cleaned as often as the toilets, but in a small business maybe the desktop is left to gather dust and germs. I think most public libraries are cleaned regularly.

I mean it makes perfect sense. with a toilet your constantly flushing ( I hope) and you are flushing some of the bacteria little by little. some people who have office desks just have things sitting in there for years untouched so its just begging for a breeding/nesting ground for bacteria to linger.

The reason this happens is because most people don't think about cleaning their keyboard when they get ill or someone else in the house gets ill and fail to clean around their computer area well. Whereas when someone cleans the bathroom they usually scrub everything from top to bottom. It's just like not cleaning the door handles, the toilet handle, refrigerator handle, cabinet doors while someone is sick. People do not generally think about these areas, thus the cycle begins all over with everyone being sick. Good point though, Thanks!
