Voiceovers

It is a well-known fact that certain people have readily distinguishable voices. I'm usually quick to identify the voice of a famous person when I hear it, like in a commercial on TV, or in an animated film or TV show. Many famous voices also do voiceovers for documentaries and docudramas also. How good are you at identifying a famous person's voice when you hear it and the person is not visible. Whose voice have you identified from any of these scenarios? A few of the voices I always recognize when I hear them are: James Earl Jones, Jack Nicholson, Ossie Davis, Al Pacino, Dennis Haysbert, Barbra Walters, and Chris Tucker.

Yes, some people I do recognize and some you mention are ones I know, like James Earl Jones, Jack Nicholson and Barbara Walters. I also know Tom Hanks and Mel Gibson, just off the top of my head..

Every once in a great while, carmelanirel, I am really surprised to hear a familiar voice during a commercial on TV or radio.

You ought to see my daughter when we watch cartoons..Like we recently saw Horton Hears a Who and see went on line because she thought one of the characters sounded familiar and she was right..

I can recognise Jack Nicholson if I'm not in the room and many others. Robyn Williams is another. I can't think of others doing voiceovers but you might recognise the name Sam Neil. The ones that spring to mind for me are Australians and you wouldn't recognise them. It's one of those things where I operate better in the moment...trying to recall names off the top of my head is becoming more difficult as I age.

I would recognise Nicole Kidman, Bryan Brown and Mel Gibson but not the others. I recently watched a program that ran over a few weeks about the Royal Family that was present by Cate Blanchett and although her voice is quite distinct, I don't think I would recognise it off hand. Especially when they use their acting voice which has no accent.

I would surely recognize Sam Neill, Ms Tickle, since he is one of my favorite actors! Surprisingly, I am familiar with quite a few Aussie actors such as Hugh Jackman, Nicole Kidman, Brian Brown, Naomi Watts, Mel Gibson. I was also a great fan of Heath Ledger and the singing group The Beegees.

Those are all very easily identifiable voices, winterose. I became familiar with Chris Tucker's voice before I actually ever saw his face because my ex was always playing his movie in another room. His voice used to really irritate me.

I am probably the worlds worst at identifying a voice I recognise on voice overs! Even if I do recognise the voice it will take me weeks to realise who it actually was ...if I ever do! xxx

My best friend tells me that this is one of the little things about me that she hates, mummymo, my ability to pick up on these sorts of things.

I am also good at distinguishing voices. The only person who fools me sometimes is Robin Williams. Because he is so silly and does alot of the voices in kid's movies, I can easily get confused.

I remember some of the great comedians of the past, carolbee, who were very good at doing voices such as Rich Little.

I get so involved in listening to the voices sometimes that I have to rewatch the show that I am watching at the time. "Cars" is the perfect example. I had to watch it 3 times before I understood the movie because I was always listening to the voices.LOL
