I guess I must be having one of my wacky bored moments here folks...little bit of daydreaming ...I've been just now to a bunch of websites of various tourist websites and ordered brochures/catalogs of places to travel to..hey I can dream can't I?? Hehee
Anyway, having had a love for the ancient Egyptian culture since god knows when, I decided to click on the Egyptian Tourist Bureau....
http://touregypt.net/
And it has a lot of stuff there, including recipes of the week, but really got me was the one section where you can type in your name and see how your name looks in Egyptian hieroglyphics...mmm..not bad...so if your curious..click here

Having taken a holiday in Egypt last year with my sister, I saw several heiroglyphic / alphabet keys, one of which was in the form of a papyrus bookmark which I bought. You could also get things personalised with your name in hieroglyphics. This online one is a fun thing to play about with.
Just a note to those who don't know anything about ancient Egypt, hieroglyphics were only used on monuments - carved into stone, or painted on to the walls of tombs. For day to day writing, they used a shorthand version which we call demotic. That's what you would use if you were actually writing your name.

Wow..you're so lucky to have actually gone to Egypt..did you do the whole pyramid and sphinx tour?? I've had a love affair with the ancient Egyptian culture since I was a little girl and actually studied a bit of Egyptology in college

Yup--not only Isis but Bast...strange how different time and cultures have viewed cats..in ancient Egypt cats were worshiped..the most sacred cat being the black cat..then centuries later cats were tortured and killed and superstitions evolved around black cats.

We all know you have a few screws loose somewhere but still love ya.
As for the symbols, that was pretty neat. Wonder if I was to sign my checks that way if the bank would accept it. lol

That's really neat!
I wish you could save the entire thing though - I'd put that on my myspace page LOL.
You can save them individually but - that's too much trouble :)
Thanks for sharing!

One of those days, huh, pyewacket? That was really cool, seeing my name in hieroglyphics. I have been interested in Egyptology for a long time myself. Anything having to do with history interests me greatly. I believe that's something we have in common.

I've loved egyptology since I was a kid too... it just fascinated me from the time I read Alfred Hitchcock and the three investigators 'the mummy mystery' in about grade 3.
I was so into it that in high school I wanted to be an archaeologist and dreamed of digging up ancient ruins and tombs LOL
My name in heiroglyphics starts with some kind of snake, then a bird, a lion, some kind of brush and finally another bird.

The movie I feel in love with when I was a kid was the classic Cleopatra with Claudette Cobert...and yes, I too wanted to be an Egyptologist when I was younger as well
