I find this very sad, that this happens, maybe it's me but when you see this happening, doesn't it make you feel sad I went in to the shop today to get some milk and I saw this young mum with two little kiddies in tow and she went up to the counter and asked for a packet of cigarettes and 15, yes 15 scratch cards! which is £15 or $30, as soon as she got outside she lit up and pushed the pushchair whilst her two kiddies tried to keep up! How does she get the money to buy both cigarettes and gamble all that money on scratch cards? Or does she spend her benefits. I know you shouldn't judge people, but I can't help wondering what she spends on the kiddies and whilst she's wasting money on smoking and gambling she could put that money to better use Is this what society has turned into, does it appall or effect you or do you just accept it?

I worked at a Casino once and you would be amazed at the number of monthly checks we would cash for people to gamble. I often wondered if they cashed their state check or social security check at the casino how they made it through the rest of the month. I am not big at gambling so I don't waste money that way. I may once in a while buy a lottery ticket or go to a casino but I am too tight to do it too often. I don't know how people do it I really don't.

She is buying into the dream that she will one day win it big and get out of her situation, she doesn't understand that she is only making it harder for herself, yes It bothers me too, but part of that problem is the government or whatever place in your country sells these scratch tickets.

Well she has a gambling problem and she needs to get control of it. But in saying that, I know a lady in Winnipeg that was buying a lot of those scratch cards and she finally hit the big one and won a million dollars on Set for Life scratch tickets. Well, if she wasn't in the newspaper three weeks later, that she won another one on the same lottery. Can you believe it, she won another million dollars. Talk about luck. I wonder what she will do with all of that money? Buy more lottery tickets, since she was lucky twice and everything comes in three's or so they say.

she wasnt abusing her kids.. you dont have to pay for her habits.. so is it really worth your time and energy to worry over where she gets the funds or what she does?

The problem is the lottery gave hope to the normal average person and then they came up with lotteries everyday and scratch cards so that person feels they have to do all these things just in case! I personally believe only gamble what you can afford to lose and without sterotyping the woman yes she proberly does spend her benefits all for the hope that it could be her!

Wolfie mate, it's so very hard not to judge or ask questions when we see this sort of thing. I think people should be accountable if they are on benefits. Maybe she has a hubby who has a good job. Maybe she works nights. Maybe, maybe, maybe. We know things are wrong but there's not much we can do. It's like seeing a pregnant woman smoking and/or drinking. They will argue that it's their body and they can do what they want. They'll always have an answer or an argument.
