Can 2 females get along?

Is it possible for 2 females, who've been raised together, continue to get along throughout adulthood? I've heard both sides so far, but I've been told that problems can arise mostly when they go into heat. Should I really be concerned?

why yes i have two male and they are harder then female to raise and they get along just fine and they is seventeen year old and been with each other for a while. it eould be harder if you try to seperate them if you have had them for a long time.

Thank you for your response. The older female is under a year and the youngest was only 4 weeks old when we got her. They've been together and quite close from the beginning!
