Do the homes in your area have a shoes off at the door rule. My area does.

My shoes and socks come straight off as soon as i get home and i put my soft fur lined slippers straight on. We live in affluent times and many of us have very expensive carpets and wooden floors and for obvious reasond they want to keep them as clean as possible. And clearly the most effective way of doing this is to insist that all shoes are taken off at the door.I dont allow shoes in the my house unless someone has a medical problem or a disability. All visitors are encouraged to bring their slippers with them when they come to our house. And there is always a selection of clean and comfy guest slippers that people can put straight on.When i visit friends i always take my slippers with me. I must say that all the home in my area seem to have the same rules as i do.Its quite an up market new estate and we all have expensive carpets and rugs etc.No-one likes to sit in a room of smelly socks and many people are embarassed by going bare foot.So consequently we all seem to wear slippers in the house. Most of the residents are affluent young professionals so we can all afford to wear really stylish and comfy slippers. but essentially i just love to come home and immediately take off my shoes and socks and slip my feet straight into a pair of my really cosy, and comfy fur-lined sheepskin or leather slippers. After having my feet enclosed in shoes all day what could be more relaxing and welcoming.I just assumed that because everyone in my area does this that everyone else did.I know that most europeans do this, and from experience its a standard practice in Canada and Japan. But the worlds a big and diverse place. And customs and house etiquette varies. But ultimately its nice to feel comfortable and relaxed in your own home.
