Hey all my fellow mylotters! My husband and I just got back from the grocery store and we had got a pecan pie well when we got home my husband asked me If I wanted a piece after we ate our sub sandwiches. Well I told him when I finish I would like a piece well he opened the pie up and when he came in the room he was holding a piece of pecan pie in his hands...no plate, no fork, no napkin, or anything just holding it walking around eating the pie and I am really upset because I feel that is not having any manners and that pie is supposed to be eaten with a fork on a plate because it isnt a finger food. Well he feels that pie is a finger food such as pizza and that it doesnt need to be eaten with a fork on a plate. He also says that eating it without a fork or plate has nothing to do with manners. So he said that I should start a discussion and see what other people have to say. Whether pie should be eaten with a fork or not? So if anyone could please give their opinion on what they think and how they feel pie should be eaten. Also if it has anything to do with manners.

Pecan pie in the hand for me. It saves dishes as well. I love eating pecan pie right out of the pie pan into my hand. It's easier for me as well and does not cause a mess as often. If I am eating whipped topping on it though, I will use a fork and plate. As far as manners go, it may be bad manners but it's good food. I would say as long as he doesn't do it while you are entertaining guests all should be fine. I find that we are more relaxed in our home environment than when dining out or having guests over to eat.

Hello, eating pecan pie in your hand may be messy, but it really tastes good. In a plate is better and usually not messy. So if you are at home and not having any company at the time eating it from your hand is okay...personal choice. It is up to you...

I personally feel that a pie should be eaten on a plate with a spoon than a fork, but talking about manners I am not good at it though too... heh heh...

i feel strangely comforted reading that i am not the only one who has eaten a piece of pie with no cutlery or plate! i thought i was just weird or lazy to do the dishes ;) i see that it is sorta rude, but i would not do it unless i was home alone, eating the pie without any onlookers ;) and this is not just for pecan pie. i think it could be any pie that isn't gooey, mushy or runny. as long as the crust holds in the 'guts' :)
