When I first came to the States, bought a new home and my first washer and dryer. I got it in February 1978 and I have just finished doing my laundry and it is now in the dryer. Same pair of Kenmore brand from Sears and they are now 30 years old and still going strong. Never broke down or needed a repair. Have you ever had such good luck with a purchase?

My digital camera is my best ever purchase. I bought it over nine years ago. At the time I knew very little about these new fangled things so I checked it out on the internet and the most highly recommended digital camera was an Olympus that sold at the time for about $450. A few days later, I saw the camera avertised at a local Best Buy for $300 on sale. I drove right over and got the lasst one. A few weeks later Olympus stopped making that model.
Well, I've now had the camera for almost ten years. It paid for itself in less than a month by eliminating film development fees. It's now taken well over 10,000 photos (I used it for online sales a lot.) The pictures it takes are as good as any I've seen even though it's an old camera and has only 1.3 pixels. Don't know what I'm going to do when this thing goes. It's probably the best electronic buy I've ever made. I'm convinced to this day that Olympus discontinued this model because it was too good for the money.

Sure sounds like you got a real good buy. Electronics are really dodgy as you can buy something from one brand and it lasts for years yet the same item bought the same day can be a lemon. I think my 7 month old computer may be on the lemon list...

Don't want to hear that Whiteheather. I need a new computer and I'm dreading picking one out. The one I have now is nine years old and was almost as good a deal as the camera. Unlike the camera, the computer is now pretty much obsolete although it still works. Problem is I've been hearing awful things about windows Vista and I just don't want to go there.

That's hilarious...only because ours is the same exact way. Our Kenmore washer and dryer, purchased at Sears is on it's 30th year as well. The only thing replaced was a belt on the dryer. I run at least 6 loads a week. I don't think any other brand can beat it. Kenmore, at least the older models are the best. Hugs.

I am so glad you have had the same experience as I have as some of my friends do not believe me. I honestly think that appliances as not as well made nowadays. I believe they are made poorly on purpose not to last so that the consumer has to keep on buying new ones and the companies are continually making a profit.

I completly agree, many things now are made cheaper and less reliable, so consumers have to purchase them more often...from appliances to tv's and stereos. It's sad. We also have a tv, from the late 70's that is still going strong, even though it isn't wired for all the new "get-ups", it picks up the local stations with great quality, sometimes better than the newer tv.

I had to think about this & the answer is no. I have no electrical white goods that come near where near as old as yours.
My last airconditioner lasted nearly 30 years.
My Father always says that they dont make good quality whitegoods liked they used to.

I bought a floor model Tv in 1986. Its a Magnavox. My son is still using it. No repairs. I also received a GE toaster for a wedding gift in 1983 and we're still using it also.

Thats amazing. We had a Hitachi that lasted about 10 years with only minor repairs. The Samsung at My parents home is about 5 years now and doing well. My machine is less than a year old now. Lets wait and see!

That is wonderful. Our washer/dryer (also Kenmore) was purchased in 1998 and still going strong. We never have had any problems with it. My one computer was purchased in Jun3 2001 and still works very well. Our refrigerator (also Kenmore) was purchased around 1995 and it still runs perfectly. Again, no repairs. My grandma has a vacum cleaner I believe dating back to the 60s or 70s and it still works perfectly

No way! That is amazing whiteheather! i can almost guarantee you wouldn't get that nowadays as things are seldom as well made nowadays as they used to be! I hope you continue to get a lot of use out of these machines and look forward to hearing about 35 years of use! xxx

That is incredible!! 30 years and never needing repair? WOW!! I hope you didn't shoot yourself in the foot now after "bragging" because usually after one does, it breaks down. IKES!! But for them to last that long and never needing repair is something that I've never heard of! That is incredible!!
