Employer/ Employee Relationship

I had been working for someone for almost 10 years. Managing the front office, telephone work, face to face work etc. Along with extra duties above and beyond the call of duty. Things you would not believe. It was a small private employer. I felt we were close but we still had a business relationship. I was pregnant and I ended up having an emergency c section at 30 weeks pregnant. They rushed me in and I wasn't even numb before they started cutting. My baby was born at 2lbs 5oz. It was a very scary situation. My employer did not even check on me. Not one phone call. No cards. This hurt me a lot. I felt like after almost 10 years of LOYAL employment, the least I could get is a card or phone call. Am i wrong for thinking this way? Again it is a private small office. not a big corporation where people are just another number. Let me know what you think.
