How can I Avoid my MS Office Files being Currupted!!!

Hay guys I have been facing dis problem a lot!!!! And i am very much in tension becuase of this!!!
If I do not use my MS Office for some time like 2 months, Specially MS Word files....they get currupted and do not open in the office... and there language change and becomes unreadable!!!!!
Did anybody else face the same problem and can some one help on this!!!

Did you upgrade you office in the mean time? You'll have a problem if you intalled the newest version of office. It's not compatible with older versions.

Well I haven't upgraded the office but I have reinstalled it quite some times!!!
But I don't think it is because I have reinstalled it!!! because Those files which I have created just a few days before reinstalling the office....they can be opened up!!but I can not open old files of MS Office!!!except powerpoint presentations!!!

I am using XP service pack 2
and office 2002.
I hate all the new Microsoft stuff. It is very unstable and full of errors.
That is why I use 2002.
