There is no place like home....

Its a famous saying and for me it applies whenever I am away from home that I always miss things at home. Its not only the house that I miss, my bed, my family but also the locality and community. It maybe nice to live in another country or place but as always, people tend to look back and want to visit back the place where they have taken root and miss all the experience they have there. So, have you missed home lately? Do you always say, "there is no place like home." when you are in another place or even in your own place?

I just hope that their is another term much intense than the meaning of homesickness, because what i feel about my home is beyond the feeling of missing home. Because i may not be able to visit my home again. Someone took it away from my family, illegaly. It sore much than missing it.

Community and locality…don’t tell me, I know just how much it hurts. Very recently (5 months) I just changed houses and left my home of 10 ½ yrs to come and stay where I am right now. my new home offers me comforts and freedom that the old one did not, but do I miss the old house??? Oh yes, terribly so. I miss the very feel of the place, the long shaded walks, the neighbourhood, the locality everything…nothing is the same any more. I am trying to get used to this place, I know I will in time, but right now I just want to go back and take a long walk through that place in the evenings.

I agree with that. period. Well, it may be because we got to customized with our old place and whenever we are at new one..there is always a hope or some feeling missing home. We got used with our old habit before move to new one. And indeed, take time to really get used to it. I live in another place now, and even now i still miss my own birthplace. And it felt good to back again.

I never miss home when I am away, in fact the last time I was away from home last year on a weeks holiday I cried when it was time to come home. I have no family where I live, and no close friends, the community is not one I have ever really been accepted into and so I have never really classed anywhere as home. I will get to move eventually but it is just not an option at the moment. I would love to feel that the place I live in is home and I think anyone who has that is really lucky.

I feel for you Gemini_rose for now having a home where you had your family roots. I pray someday that you will also feel to have a place with which you can call home.

Thank you, that is really sweet of you. I have never had roots because as a child my parents owned pubs and so as a consequence they would stay a year or two in a place and then put in for a move and so I never really had the chance to settle anywhere. Where I live now, I only moved to because my parents were here, they then moved about a year or two after and I just stayed behind as I had a job. But I have never really fitted in here, being an outsider, people do not tend to accept outsiders and so it is pretty hard, and even though I have lived here for 16 years now I do not feel as though I belong and I am not in the position to be able to move, plus when I do move again I want to be somewhere I feel more welcome, if there is anywhere!!

Yeah, "There is no place like home". A place when we finally can return after work or after some 'traveling'. ^__^ However, too bad that some people have not found the place they could call as "home" yet. For some people, the home is not the current place they are living in. :( So, somehow I feel grateful that I am still able to enjoy staying at this home and return to this home for resting and relax.

Of course there is no place like home, Read your thread make me remember my first time I left my home, my hometown, my country. I went to study aboard. OH my god, I cried and cried and cried whenever I saw something similar to my home. It took me really three months to settle down at the new place without crying after all. But of course I still missed my home.

You know, unless it's a 5 star hotel with all the mod cons, swimming pool etc then I wouldn't mind being there instead of home HAHA but your right, when I visit with relatives, it's nice to be back at home amongst my own things :)

I really miss my home when I have to go out of town for any reason. When we went to another state to see my daughter who is in the military, we had to stay in several hotels. When it was time to go home, I loathed the idea of staying in a hotel so much my husband and I drove the whole 15 hour trip without stopping.

You are quite right. East or west, home is the best. If we are away from home for some time, then we will miss it. This is why people always think that the home food is the best.

Heck no. But that's my opinion from my own experience. When I married my husband almost 17 years ago, I couldn't wait to move out of state not only my home town. He was in the army so we moved wayyyy out of state however to an area that I hated with such a passion but still didn't want to return to my home state or town. Finally we moved to another state and I was some what happy there but then we moved again and this time he retired, I'm VERY happy where we're at now which is North Carolina.

somtimes..when i'm in other house..like my friends..well they have better room, beds, foods, chair, pillow, bathroom, pets, toys, books, computer, tv, etc.... but i think..even if i dont have better things in my home...there is no place like home cos there's love of your family that will surely warm your heart... and that's somthing ur going to look for when ur not at home
