Ok with three kids its hard to keep up with shoes. I tried to tell them to put them under their bed. Well that didn't work. They still wound up in the living room or somewhere. So I got a box and sat it close to the door where everyone comes in. This is where all the shoes go now. Its been a little better keeping up with them.
So how about you do you have a shoe box or something near the door for the shoes??

In my experience, having three kids, husband and 3 dogs. No matter how hard I try or cry for my family to put the shoes away in the closet they never do! I am always reminding them to put the shoes away. I cleaned the closet out. I have been nice to them, mean about it. No change. They still plop thier shoes wherever they want! UGH..LOL

you know what i did? i put a small bookshelf in our front closet (they are about $20- @ walmart) and i use that for shoes. each daughter has their own shelf and i have a shelf for mine and my hubby used the floor...of course tall boots will not fit, they are on the floor.
when the season changes, so do the shoes (i have a large plastic box in the garage for flip flops and the like and another book shelf for off season shoes and at the end of the winter, before summer, i switch shoes...its the best way for us.

At m y old house I had a shelf beside the door to hold shoes and bookbags. It worked out pretty well. Here there isn't room for something like that so there's a little basket by the one door for the little boys shoes. There is a mudroom here but the house settled and the outer door is stuck right now so we don't come in through that door anymore. It's too muddy to walk through the house to put shoes out there...yes I know, we could just take them off at the other door and carry them to the mud room but for whatever reason no one will do that! Our coats get hung up out there at least.

We have a set of shelves by the door for the shoes. With 3 kids (and 1 on the way), plus hubby and myself, we have LOTS of shoes so we only keep the shoes we wear at least once a week on the shoe rack. Out-of-season shoes are kept in a bench we have near the door and other shoes (mainly hubby's and mine) are kept in the closets. My older girls swap off who is in charge of "organizing" the shoe rack each day (or every other day, as needed) as part of their chores. This has helped encourage them to put their shoes away as they take them off, so that when chore time comes, it is easier for themselves.

Shoes haunt me, they are an absolute nightmare in our house. We have a cupboard sort of under the stairs and we always put our shoes in there, we tell the kids to put their shoes in, well they just tend to throw them in, especially school shoes and so when it comes to a school day, somebodies shoe is always missing. We could not have them by the door, there is just no where to put a box or anything!
