My Rating Just Took a Nose Dive!

Canada

Last night I got into a debate on mylot about the seal hunt. I stated what the seal hunt was actually about and that it was unfair to rejoice of the death of seal hunters and they stated it was "sweet irony" for the seals and that the sealers deserved to die. This morning I woke up and my rating had dropped from 91 points to 80. Whatever happened to being able to debate freely on mylot?

Wow, I'm sorry to hear that your rating has taken such a dive. It's unfortunate, but there doesn't seem to be much you can do about negative ratings. Some people are always going to disagree, and rate you negatively as a result. It's sad, but I just try to stay away from topics generally that I think will cause a fuss. Things go much more smoothly that way. I wish we could debate a little more freely, but it's hard when you know how much your ranking might suffer.

Yeah, I know what you mean. But I just tend to figure that if they're that set one way about something how likely am I to change that? The people that think this sort of thing is wrong will read it and know that themselves, and that is good enough for me. I'm sure with a little help ;-) your ratings will be back up in no time.

I hope so, I guess with the seal hunt the only media they see is the bad stuff. Who cares about the good stuff they won't show that because it won't make people care. I hope my rating goes back up soon :(

I hope so too. I don't think it will take long though. You had your 9 in the first place for a reason.

I've been at an 8 the entire time I've been on mylot, so you're ahead of me! He he he. Normally I don't rate anyone negative, unless they really are saying something way out there and is ridiculous, stupid, or mean. But that's just mean. I don't rate negative just because I have a different opinion. I only rate negative if someone is being blatantly stupid or rude.

That's a great way to go about things. There's no point on negatively rating someone that you don't agree with when you can simply not rate them at all.

If I disagree with someone I look at how their debating, if they can make me think about their side they get a positive. Their response maynot be what I feel personally but if it is well constructed and they provide some good arguments why should I punish them for knowing their stuff and having their own opinion? If everyone thought the same the world would be an incredibly boring place.

That is what I would also liketo know I went from ten to nine and back to ten and a day later back to nine because I said I do not think smoking is good for your health and it is not glamorous and for that I got kicked back to a nine this is no fair i was not rude and I was not abusive at all nor disrespectful.

I am sorry to hear about your rating's nose dive :( Its just not correct to rate some one negative just beacause you disagree. One should rate negative, only in the very extreme cases. Afterall we dont rate all good posts. We rate only those that appealed the most. Likewise try to minimise the use of negative ratings. Cheers!

I try to rate all replies in my topics and I have MAYBE rated one or two negative. I got flamed in my own topic once, I think that was the only one I rated negative. You're right tho we don't rate all good posts positive so why should people jump down my throat for having a different opinion.
