We have recently experienced a lay-off that has messed up everything we had planned. Now the questions are Can we meet our basic needs? Do we have enough gas to get to work? Have you suffered a lay-off and how are you dealing with it?

Yes. A year ago I was laid off from a job I worked at for 20 years. I recieved a severence package, but that has run out. I have been denied a few jobs due to health problems. Things are not looking good. I live alone don't have any help. Money is running out and I'm scared of winding up on the street. I've been trying some of these internet deals, but it seems like the ones that are honest only offer pennies per day. It's bleak out in America. The middle class is disappearing. God help us.

I agree, its bleek in America. Do you have an economic assistance office near you?

Thanks for the reply. By economic assistance, do you mean the unemployment office? Thanks.

my husband was laid off a week ago. the good thing is that I make enough money to support the family but it will still be difficult. he did get a decent severance so we used that money to pay off bills to make it easier to live on one income. His company announced 900 more layoffs to come and another local company will lay off 400 so the job market will be saturated with people looking for the same type of work. We are on hardcore budget. he will get unemployment but it is significantly less than he made so we will just put that money in our savings until needed. I feel so badly for the people who do not have the same positive circumstances we do. we started a couple of home businesses months ago and he will concentrate on those while looking for a job. times are tough in these parts.

The timing for my husband's lay-off is unique in that he has a multitude of work at home projects but initially we won't see an income from that. Yes, its very scary how everything is pointing to very hard times for alot of people.

The lay-off has actually given my husband time to finish work that he had no time to do, hopefully we'll see income from those projects in the near future.
