My mum has always saved the papers from her packs of butter...if youre wondering why...she uses them to grease any baking tins...do any of you do this??

The frugal part of my brain tells me that I ought to do as your Mum does & hang onto these for cake tin greasing. But that part of my brain does battle with the part that just can't be doing with old butter wrappers cluttering the place up which says to throw them out. I'm afraid that the throwing out camp normally wins, unless I happen to be making a cake when I'm unwrapping a new butter.
My youngest son likes to steal butter wrappers from the bin if I'm not looking. He licks all the butter off them, yukky child. He's only started this habit since I started blocking off the fridge. Before I did that he used to pinch whole blocks of butter from the fridge & bite lumps out of them!!!

OHHHHH.the thought of taking a bite from a lump of butter is ughhhhhhhhh..but children have funny habits!!!
I alawys remember as a child..if mum was cooking sausages,I used to beg her for a piece of raw sausage!!..mum used to say..you will get worms if you eat that..but she always gave in!!!!
I dont think even i could eat a chunk of butter though!!

That's a good idea, I usually just spray the pan with pam. I just had to laught and share what my mom does. She used to take the papers from the butter and rub them on her cat. She said that it helps reduce fur balls.

There's not much on the paper and the cat licks it off right away. So, it really wasn't very messy. Now, exactly how it reduces fur balls? I really don't know.

I guess it just greases the way down & makes them pass more easily. Perhaps I'll try this idea. I had to pay a huge vet bill recently as one of my cats got an impacted hair ball. A bit of a greasy cat is a small price to pay, and if she didn't lick it off herself I reckont he other cat & the dogs would clean her up in no time.

My mum used to do this, and my nan. I used to do it for a while but then I stopped and now I just use it straight out of the tub!

I can't say I have, but it sounds like a good idea. Just as fast as cooking spray, but much less expensive :). I always find it interesting to see what people from earlier generations, who didn't have as much money, were able to do with what was available.

They had a lot more of an idea than we have to be frugal i think!! Mum used to use every bit ofpastry up..and i mean every bit!!!..the last tiny bit provided a couple of jam tarts...do you remember when the pop bottles used to have deposits on them???and we used to take the bottles back so wecould get the depposit back!!!

Ok a deal!! what about throwing a slice or two of bread into the equation..we could have a feast then!!
