Okay, we are all here to earn money. But, how do you save money? I don't mean the generic -- eat out less often, bring your lunch to work -- ideas that pop up on every savings site in the world. I mean how do you really save money?
I mostly watch my food budget. Anything left over from each week's budget for groceries goes into savings.

Unfortunately, I rarely use cash anymore. The debit card is so much easier. I keep the balance in my head, and I actually spend more responsibily with the debit card than with cash.

Grow your own garden. Can and freeze.
Buy grocery items only when they are on sale and you have a coupon.
Get a moped, scooter, or bike. Carpool.
Turn off lights when leaving a room. Use lower wattage bulbs. Replace regular bulbs with low wattage flourescent bulbs. Dumpster Dive and keep what you can use, sell what you can't. Get rid of cable. Get rid of phone. Always buy used.

It is difficult to add much to what has already been posted other than to suggest that you open an IRA account and participate in a 401(k) or similar account at work. These are retirement accounts in which your money grows tax free until retirement. If you open a Roth IRA you won't have to pay taxes on any of the money you withdraw in retirement either. The 401(k) is great because your employer usually contributes as well often matching your contributions dollar for dollar. This is literally free money. The income from the investment will grow and compound tax free for a number of years giving you a nice nest egg for retirement.

I'm sorry to see this post didn't get very far... I love these kind of topics but they are few and far between... One way to save money is to buy Tide detergent on sale use $1/1 coupon, take it home mix half in another bottle and fill the rest with water... you get two bottles for the price of one and used a coupon and waited for it to be on sale... he he...There use to be a coupon out for $1/1 tide and it was off any... and then walmart had the travel size for $1 needless to say I mixed it half and half and had laundry soap for quite some time... yeah....Tide soap works very well even mixing it half and half with water... I wouldn't try doing that with generic soaps....

Saving computer paper that has been used for scrap paper (to use for shopping lists etc.),
wash and reuse ziplock bags.
save greeting cards (I keep the fronts to cut up and use for my homemade cards that I make & for scrapbooking),
pile on the clothes instead of turning up the heat.
