What has our world come too when kids this young even think of things like this!!!! — A group of third-graders plotted to attack their teacher, bringing a broken steak knife, handcuffs, duct tape and other items for the job and assigning children tasks including covering the windows and cleaning up afterward, police said Tuesday...... Two of the students were arrested on juvenile charges Tuesday and a third arrest was expected. District Attorney Rick Currie said other students told investigators they didn't take the plot seriously or insisted they had decided not to participate.... The purported target is a veteran educator who teaches third-grade students with learning disabilities, including attention deficit disorder, delayed development and hyperactivity, friends and parents said. for more on this story, go to this link http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2008-04-01-students-plot_N.htm?csp=34

I think children have plotted this kind of stuff for years, only now a days everything is taken so much more seriously then before, in the old days parents would have been called and dad would whip the crap out of the childs rear end and that would be the end of it. No tax dollars spent, no labels of child "criminal" for the child, no nonsence. These kids are in third grade, lets be real, it gets on their record they are labeled and they will probably have a whole different life because they are now "bad" kids. what is the world comming too, let the parents spank them, take away the xbox and have them scrubbing the toilet and doing dishes for a month.

That comparison does make one see things differently, I just cant fathom children of that age really being criminals.

This is an awful thing. When I read the title of this discussion I was surprised. I was even more surprised when I heard the story. I mean what is this word coming too? I think that kids are getting too much discipine at home. But who am I too judge? This was an extremely wrong and dangerous thing and I am glad that the teacher is alright and was attacked or hurt.

I dont think this problem is cause by too much discipline at home. In my opinion its quite the opposite.

Sorry i didn't mean to say that. I meant to say not too much discipline at home. I'm like doing three things at once and I guess I'm not concentrating too much on typing my thoughts while I'm doing something else.

That is awful. I could understand it if the teacher was hurting them that would be a different story. Kids today seem to have no respect for audults espically teachers. Of course they were pretty bad in the 80s when I went to school. Now i know it is 10 times worser.

Oh, my what is the world coming too, is right !! 3rd grade...wow who would have thought such young kids would come up with such a plan. And even assigning tasks and cleanup..it's mind blowing isn't it. I am glad I don't have any children. I would be home schooling for sure. Nothing is safe anymore it seems. I sure hope your first class is normal and all of them after that...lol Blessed Be, Mari

I think many people do homeschool their children for reasons just like this!

This story is equally interesting and horrifying... i think these kids were exposed to too much violence on tv and video games... to plot such a thing at a very young age... one is left to ask... where did the innocence go... But then... looking at the other side of the coin... what made them want to do this... were they provoke by the actions of the teacher involved... where there is smoke there is fire... so we cannot rule out the posibility that the teacher did something to these kids...

I tell you kids are crazy these days. Alot of things that they do is what they either saw or learned. They probably saw something of a movie, television. It really could be anything. That is sad that they had to go to juvenile. I have never hard oF third graders being charge. I hated for the parents, what they are being faced with. This is not good.

I think the worst part of it all is the fact that some people just aren't surprised by this anymore. Those kids parents should have taught them the right kind of people to be. Now they are gonna have this charge on them and it probably won't stop with this one. These kinds of things are happening far to often for my liking and I hope they are charged to the full extent of the law.

Children now are knowledgeable in what goes on around them but sometimes news, media, and other sources put other things in children's mind. Parents should be more aware and let their kids know what is good and what is bad from what they see around them. This are just kids they shouldn't be charged though they should just get counseling and the parents should take care of all the rest.

That is terrible. How could children think of these thing? When I first saw this, I thought all right, these were teenagers who were learning disabled and only nine years old in intelligence, but these were nine and ten year olds and even though they are learning disabled, there should be accountability. There is too much of that 'Oh those poor kids, they cannot read as well as the others, so let us excuse them." Well even a child knows right from wrong. They should be taught that you do not attack the teacher who is there to help you. But what to do with them?

i was shocked to hear this too. of course the most shocking part is the fact that the kids are so young! and from what ive heard on the news and read in that article, this plan was pretty well thought out! which is scary! someone else has mentioned it..and i definatly agree, spanking, grounding and no xbox etc is MORE than called for! personally maybe some time spent in juvie WOULD make a "scared em straight" impression for the better! these kids may have learning disabilities, but they are certainly of age to know right from wrong. the fact that one kid was actually assigned to CLEAN UP THE SCENE, PROVES they knew what they were doing was wrong! at least to me it does. sure they probably got some of this from violence on tv or in video games, but at least part of it has to come back to plain old parenting. bring your kids up to RESPECT adults, elders and authority figures and things like this most likely wont happen! shoot, it seems like most parents dont even bother to teach their children manners or ettiquite anymore either, much less proper respect.

I agree, parents seems to be less involved in their childrens lives. I understand that many peopel have to have a two income family, to make ends meet. But parents have to be held accountable! Any yes, I agree juvie is good for them. It may make them think twice before pulling something like this. Charging them now, may prevent any future problems, and hopefully no one else will get hurt. Charging these kiddos wont hurt them. Once they hit 17yrs old, the records become sealed, and no one will ever know about there impropriaties from their childhood.

forgot to mention..that yes violence is on tv and games, but parents can CONTROL WHAT THEY WATCH AND PLAY!

This is so very sad, and I know you probably won't agree with me, but I honestly feel that part of the problem with our children today is vaccines! Slam me all you want to, but before you do, at least go to my site, and read what happen to ALL 6 of my children who were fully vaccinated. You just might see vaccines in a whole new light, because all 6 of my fully vaccinated children beat all the odds on the possibility of a reaction. Read our story here, http://www.everythingmakesscents.com/vaccines.html There is a ton of info there on vaccines, and I am not sure which page our story is on, but I'm sure you'll find. If not, feel free to PM me and I will copy it and send it to you. My childrens stories prove that we have and are being lied to, and vaccines are causeing great damage, some of which hasn't even reared it's ugly head yet! I have said for years now, that the vaccines are making our kids crazy, and they are doing stupid things because the chemicals being pumped into them as babies are turning nany into creatures as they grow up! May seem like a crazy thought to many, but think about a while, is it really that crazy of a thought? Now vaccines are going to possibly be forced on children and adults? I think we all need to be very afraid, because this is only the beginning if we don't all wake up, see what is happening, and do something about it besides sit on our butts and pretend all is okay! Mercury poisoning will make you crazy....

I heard about this sad story, yet I have to say I'm not really surprised. I think that we can point the blame at a lot of different things, including a lack of parental involvement, discipline, etc, but lately I see that these type of incidents are hyped and even glorifed on television. We constantly hear horror stories about mass murderers and plots of this sort, yet there is a certain aura of fame and recognition that goes with it too. Ever since the tragic Columbine incident, the names of the perpetrators are a subject of discussion, documentaries, made for TV movies, etc. Kids are easily influenced by this and its time parents step up and dedicate a little more time to their children and discuss the events of the world we live in. Kids needs to express themselves, their views and fears so that a dialog is established and any potential problems are nipped in the bud.I hope the children involved in this incident get the counseling they obviously need.

This is unbelievable. Such young and seemingly innocent kids can do such a thing. It is hard to imagine. What the world is coming to these days.
