I always love to have my own business. But for the fact that I dont have enough capital, I still have not established it and hope someday I will. I love to have a bakeshop and a craft store as I love doing crafts as well. Since I am also in the food industry, I would love to have a business in food and introduce a new concept in food. Do you ever dream of having your own business? If you have the capital, what would it be?

Hi gabrielle, I have owned several small businesses and currently work for myself, though I am not sure you would call what I do now "my own business" but perhaps you would. You are wise to be concerned about capitalizing your business properly before you jump into it. Here is the US, something close to 76% of all small businesses fail in the first 5 years due to under capitalization. But that should not stop you from getting started. I know several people in the food/catering/baking industry that work from home. Let me give you some examples. There is a lady at my son's school, a mom, that makes the most wonderful cakes I have ever had. There used to be a bakery where we lived that charge more than $75 per cake, sometimes more than $400 for regular non-wedding cakes. The cakes that this lady makes are MUCH better than those bakery cakes. Once word got out about her wonderful cakes, she has orders every week for cakes for weddings, birthday parties, confirmations etc. There is also a husband and wife team at my church who do catering. He is a fantastic chef and she keeps the books. They started by providing food for a church function, I think it was just a picnic. The church paid them a few hundred dollars and expected burgers and hot dogs and stuff like that. They provided that and MUCH more. I think they lost money on that event but people were so impressed that they started doing ALL the church functions and people began to hire them as caterers. There is another lady I know who doesn't cook or bake but she is like a party planner. She makes other people's food special. IF you were having a party you would contact her and tell her what you want. She gives you a price that is close to what you would pay for just the food. She buys the food from a caterer but sets up the party in special ways. I can't really explain it because it is honesty lost on me, but the women who attend are always very impressed. It is not anything really big and fancy but just the way she decorates and presents the food and creates an atmosphere. They started these businesses on very little money. You just need to find something that you are passionate about and get started doing something, even if it is something small. Good luck!

I wish I was good with my hands so I can make original things and sell them. I would love to own my own business one day - you never know, it might happen in the near future.
