Why do you do good deeds?

I've read through several discussions on this. I'm curious, what prompts you to step up to the plate? Are you trying to impress someone? Do you think you will be rewarded in some way? Are you trying to earn points for your afterlife? Or do you just feel lead, or compelled to help out?

Most of the time for me it's instinctive. When you see someone badly needing your help at that very moment, you would definitely give a hand. It feels good when you realize that you've made someone happy at that moment. There's no need to impress anyone in doing good deeds. I believe that in every good thing we do, we are rewarded by God in some other ways in our lives. In my own life, it always does happen.

I just naturally help when I see a need. I never think about "rewards" or anything, because I feel I am supposed to help when and where I can. I don't necessarily believe in rewards in the afterlife or in Karma. I just do what I do. Some people appreciate it and some don't; but that doesn't have any bearing on whether I help or not.
I think mainly I do it because both my parents did. So maybe it's a learned thing. lol Who knows? All I do know is that everyone should help others when they can.

Good point! I think many times we just do what we were trained to do. This goes into the other side of the story as well. Ya know, those people who just take, take, take, never returning anything.

It's just in my nature. I don't do it expecting anything in return, but I do believe what goes around comes around. Unfortunately I seem to have been proven wrong with that little "quote" there many times. But I really can't be a mean person generally, I have to be really upset or angry.
I do find it funny that people who seem to go about doing their good deeds always get kicked in the rear, but i think it all eventually works out...just got to wait and see.
