My partner is in this process right now. She is on disability for mental illness. She used to have a job that paid her $60,000.00 a year, but due to her illness she no longer can even hold a job. Most of her debt piled up while she had this job. Now, she is overwhelmed and her S.S. doesn't even cover her mortgage. She is a proud woman and it took alot for her to go to a lawyer about Chapter 7. After she got done crying at the lawyer's office, he told her she will cry when the process is all over, from the relief she will feel. I certainly hope so. It is not an easy decision to make and it was her last resort and the only way she can keep her house. With my help and income, we can pay the bills for maintaining the house. Hopefully, she can make a new start, especially, as she grows stronger mentally and can get back into the workforce, slowly but surely.
Have you ever had to file bankruptcy or are you thinking of filing?
PEACE

first of all I feel bad for your partner...this shows she has a good heart.
remorse is ok if she learns that we all try our best and sometimes we come short of our goals and expectations. you sound like a good friend and partner.
as long as she can hold onto the belief and does not lose "HOPE" then she will be ok..but you can do for her what she can't seem to do for herself and that is show her that althoug things are bad that all this will pass away and just be a learning experience...she made the debt with our without help..this is a moot point at this time...the lawyer was right...and you are there to aide her as much as you can but in the end she will have to have faith in the process of healing and must learn to forgive herself first...Good luck...we are a civilized country and all you can do is your best.
