Recently everything seems to be going up in price, and wages don't seem to be keeping up with the rise in costs. Has the rise in prices mad a difference in how you show, what you buy or even when you shop for anything?? I know me I'm less likely to buy things on whim while just browsing. I've been looking for more sales and coupons. I've also been shopping at the store where you go buy your gas first and get a coupon for so many cents a litre to use at the store. I know theres other changes ive made in conjunction to this and loosing weight (such as walking to a friends house rather than driving the mile or so or buying an elliptical trainer for 1/2 the price of a gym membership and canceling the membership).

I've always been pretty frugal. I always compare the sale papers before shopping, and make a menu around what's on sale. I don't really use coupons, because I buy store brands for almost everything. Even with my careful approach to shopping, my weekly expenses are going up every week. There's only so much that you can cut out, or reduce how much you use. I have children, milk, eggs, fresh vegetables aren't luxury items in my opinion. Eggs alone have gone up almost 200% in my area.

If you take the salespapers to Wal-Mart and they are from another store, they'll lower the price for you to the competitor's price. That's what my mom does sometimes. Especially around Thanksgiving and Christmas.

I've done that as well. Some places dont do that others do. I like the ones that put the 2 carts comparing prices of the other stores to their own. THEY match the prices the best.

It a cycle when oil prices go up everything follows soon after it increase. This is really terrible I think its the big Oil companies that are reaping profits and we do all the work for them. I just feel it rather unfair that we are not allowed to save but keep us working harder for them to gain more profit.

It is vastly unfair that the majority of the population has to work harder for less while they reap all the profits. I heard on the radio That the provincial government is making more money than they expected because of the rise in gas prices. a Few BILLION more here.

Here in Australia, there is a gap appearing between those who have and those that don't. Food, fuel, interest rates, schooling, transportation, everything is going up and I've just touched the surface but I see more people losing their houses and any money they had as the rich get richer!

I agree it is all over. I heard on the radio today theres a possibility the gas prices might drop a bit as of july after Saudi Arabia increases their production like they announced they are going to.

PRICES....PRICES....PRICES...Seems like everytime I go to the store something has went up another quarter.Gas goes up another dime each time I go to the pump. The prices are getting out of control in a hurry.I no longer buy name brand anything.I buy the other just as good cheaper lables.I save coupons also. With the gas I just stay at home a lot more.Try to do everything I need to get done in one trip to town.So yes prices are going higher and I think we as a people need to all find ways to save because the money for wages is staying the same.It is gettingharder everyday.Small changes can make a difference in your pocketbook.

oh yes... definitely... on top of fuel and food, here the private health insurance premium, mortgages, body corporate fees, water and electricity bills and even parking fees have increased more than 10% at least... and our salaries don't increase as much... so me and my hubby just have to sacrifice some things... we stay home more often, eat at home rather than outside and have less entertainment... every little bits than can help to save money helps...

It's been like this actually for the longest time well for sure sense the new year... Yesterday I went to go and buy food and it cost me $144.00 which isn't' to bad but for how much they wanted for certain items that I could of gotten last year all went up $0.25-$0.30 cents.. Bread used to be $0.99 cents I looked and it was $1.39 for a loaf of bread, Well I needed it so I bought it.. Soon enough people are going to have to get two jobs each just to make a living... Oh yes I did read I believe on yahoo news a month ago gas is going up to $4.00 a gallon by summer... This is just crazy if you ask me... I mean about the people that live in the country how are they suppose to get to town Walk 15 miles each way... The oil company sure has there tap on this don't they... This is getting out of hand if you ask me... Just my oppion though!!

I'm sorry but lol i'm just not going to walk. Another thing i've been considering changing about how i live is - carpooling - I made another discussion on it but Its a thought for others to do. Its a little less convenient to pick things up but...I'm sure it would be easier on my wallet.

Its so sad to see how bad the prices for groceries have gone up. My husband works for Tops Friendly Markets and tells me every day how this is going up and that is going up. Its sad to say that i used to be able to get enough food for the two of us for about 60 bucks a month and now i have to spend about a hundred if not more to get everything we need. I love cereal and the prices of a box of cereal used to be only two dollars now they are four and five dollars a box and the milk i have to have with it is 3 something a gallon who would have thought milk would ever cist that much my whole childhood milk was 1.99 a gallon if not less.

We spend over $300 a week on groceries and it isn't even that much! Most of that money is going towards dog food and stuff that you don't eat like laundry soap and stuff like that. The actual food has pretty high prices. Milk here is like $4 and we have to get 4 things of milk to last a week because everyone uses it. I get for myself the Wal-Mart brand chocolate soymilk. That stuff is good and a bonus is it's only like $2. And I thought organic and health food was higher than regular food (like milk and eggs, ect.)! I know a lot of people around here who have to have two jobs just to get by. One job is to help pay bills and the other is for gas and food. That's rediculous because they don't have time for their kids anymore!

I've noticed the same thing too. Eggs and garbage bags are what I've noticed most. My husband says garbage bags are made from petroleum so I guess that's why. I have cut down on the things I buy. I look for sales when I do buy and I buy cheaper groceries, don't eat out or travel as much.

You are sooooooo right. It is terrible at the grocery store. Milk and eggs fluctuate week to week almost and it can be us to .25 in fluctuation. I can't believe it. And with fuel going to $4 this summer, I'm going to have to find a job just so I can afford gas to go visit my family who live 200 miles (4 hrs) from us. It's awful. I'm not really ready to get a job as there is no daycare openings in our little town. As much as I don't want to I may have to open my own inhome daycare. I just don't think I can handle it. I have a hard enough time with my own two kids somedays. I'm trusting God has a plan for us, so I'm doing what I think I should to follow Him

I have a part time on the side job (moonlighting i guess) at home which is about 40 minutes from work that i use all that money for trips and extras i want but dont need. That way bills and needs come out of my regular paycheque. My boss doenst mind my moonlighting - has even been known to say ok i dont have time to do this but saundy would be willing to on the side during the evening or on a weekend.

I noticed the bread has gone up too. So I think you are right that the costs have increased even here in Canada. It is hard when there is no increase in wage. I wish there were a break in all this. Vicki

it seems to me that costs have gone up alot more than we think here because our dollar is worth a lot more than it was previously compared to the US dollar...its almost like our costs have gone up the extra 30 cents plus 20 to 30 cents more for every dollar if u compare it to what we would have spent on items previously and changed it to usd.

The prices of foods and other commodities went up because of the increase of price in crude and fuel. You see these fuel are used by manufacturers to run their businesses, they use it in their manufacturing plants and delivery trucks. They are spending more bucks just to get the job done, and they know that if they just take in the additional cost without imposing it on the consumers, they'd surely be out of business in no time. So, to save their company and maximize profit, they increase the prices of their products. But with regards on how the way I buy things. There has been no significant change at all. I would like to believe that I spend my money on stuff that I really need rather than just anything. But I am planning to cut down on spending on buying extras and just buy what quantity I need to save on costs.

I think i should buy some stock in oil companies! I understand WHY prices on goods and such are going up..Its just a heck of alot harder to understand why the oil keeps jumping up like it does. Its crazy.

In some respects the ethonal is a good thing..lowers some costs and farmers have a for sure market for their products. Its hard to raise cattle or other things when things like mad cow and such will completely bottom out the prices for your livestock to the point where you absolutely have to work a second job to make sure you can afford to feed the animals that are Dependant on you for food

The cost of food is not only going up because of the rise is oil prices, but also because of the governments push for biofuels. They are really pushing corn-based ethanol and since farmers can subsidize, they're selling half there foods supplies off too be made into ethanol. Farmers in other fields are also seeing the demands for corn ethanol and are doing away their current crops or even their cattle so that they can grow corn. Ironically this is suppose to be an alternative and clean burning fuel but it takes oil to make ethanol, and people are destroying our forests to make room for crops, which is horrible for our envirnoment. And our tax dollars are paying for all of this.

I no to be honest i think everyone will feel it as it not just one thing its everything...I dread to think what its will be like in 10 years time? I own a shop so i feel it alot as people just dont have the spare cash like they once have, Its a shame because how hard can we work really!!

What kind of shop do you own? I wonder if you could somehow open up your own website or something to sell your items online? Lots of people are doing that these days because their businesses are suffering and they can get more variety of people to see what there is to offer. Of course the downside would be packaging and delivery costs, but that is usually what the shipping and handling method is used for.

I have thought about it before but then i decided against it only cus i sell loose fabric and fancy fabric but as you need to see before you by there always the chance of people wanting refunds which is a hassle in its self...thanks for the advise...i just hope the situation comes to a standstill cus too many people are suffering the inflation...thanks.

i love fabric..but i hate buying it sight unseen or plus i like making sure that it feels nice not rough so it would be nice to work with. I have a friend who orders online and regularly ships the fabric back because it didnt feel right or the texture didnt match other ones she was using. i figure its much easier to just go get it and not have to return it.

At Greece we have the same problem with prices! January one bottle oil for kitchen cost 2,6 e (2 dollars) and now costs 5,6 e!!!! It seems unbilivable! And what to do? Stop buy food and make yours garden? At Greece the half of population take 600 euro (550 dollars) for a month and they are not enough for food and also we have to pay electisity, water, rent and so many other things... Generally i try to save money from everything but sometimes its impossible..

I think one of the main reasons prices are going up is because transportation prices are increasing AND the worth of the US Dollar is WAY down! It's terrible! So yes, I'm trying to cut things out. I'm buying more dried beans and making them than buying beans in the can. I've really cut down on driving places more than I have to. I cancelled our gym membership when it went from $30 to $42 a month (unfortunately, my waist is feeling that one.) I've also started buying from local farmers as much as I can, which seems to be somewhat cheaper than buying in the store. I've also quit buying things organic (except from the local farmers) simply because we can't afford the higher prices! OH - I also started buying powered milk. We only drink milk in tea and coffee and drink soy milk the rest of the time, so I haven't noticed a huge difference in taste. It's SO much cheaper than regular milk too! We also used to walk over and get things at the quickie stop next door (like juice if I needed it in cooking, coffee, etc.) We've totally cut those things out. Recessions really suck!

They do! I think this summer i'm going to try and make some apple juice and some stuff like that..,maybe a bunch of little things like that..growing my own veggies etc will help. One thing i might suggest is...get meat from the farmers its ALOT cheaper because most will charge the market price per pound (so what THEY would get for it when the sell it at market not what the stores get for it) plus the butchers price for cutting and wrapping. It works out alot cheaper than buying meat from the store. If you dont have the space to store alot of meat...go in with a friend of family member and spilt the costs.
