I am and let me tell you I am scared and praying non stop every June - November. I have only had to evacuate 1 time in my life and that was for Hurricane Katrina! Witch that she was scared me and my family so bad we left town and headed to my brother's in Texas. After having to evacuate, I have all my important papers packed and ready to go at a drop of a hat! Thing that scares me now is we have NO car. For 2 years, my prayers have been answered and we have had NO hurricanes come near us, I pray we have our car fixed this year and we have NO hurricanes again. What about you, if you are in a hurricane prone area, are you prepared to run if you need to?

I know just what you are talking about as far as hurricanes are concerned. I used to live in Charleston,SC and I had like 30 horses, and various dogs and cats. So three times we had to run from hurricanes that were coming to Charleston. One was Hugo, that caused a lot of damage, so I got stuck in Camden,S.C for three weeks cause I couldn't get back into the place where I kept the horses. And that was very expensive to repair the damages and transport the horses back and forth. Luckily I have lots of friends that helped me to move the horses. And also helped me take care of them while we had to wait til we could get back into the barn. There wasn't any electricity, so that was the main problem, cause it meant no water for the animals. And then we had to run two more times after that. So I understand very well what you are talking about

I won't have to do it again, cause I have moved to the mountains of SC. The hurricanes sometimes come through here, but only cause lots of rain.

Wow, you only evacuate once? Before Katrina we evacuated the year prior for a storm (I think it was Ivan) and I remember evacuating at least on other time. When I was really little we stayed for all th storms even the ones that did a bit of damage.

WOW you're in Ivan territory. I feel for you. Did Katrina do much damage your way? We got lucky, Ivan didn't come to us (Louisiana). I think Katrina was a larger storm though. I don't remember.

I am actually considering moving to South Carolina. If I do, I will be on the oceanfront. I often wondered what it would be like. I would hope you receive enough warning to get out of town like you did.

Well, they watch to see which direction it is going. The warning is usually 24 hours before it hits! We left on that Sunday Morning at 6am 15 hour long drive because of traffic. Katrina was HUGE!!! She took up the whole gulf of mexico.

I am on the East coast of Florida. My area was hit by 4 hurricanes between 2004 and 2005. In my area we will have blue tarps on many of the roofs. In fact just across the street from me a branch from a tree still hangs from the 2004 hurricane season. We have called the power company many of times to try to get them to remove it, but it is still there. We live in a prefab home and our home did not have much damage but all the homes on all 4 sides of us have been wiped out.

I hope that you don't get any hurricanes now or in the near future! Yes, we live in a hurricane area too, the Dom Rep. We had tropical storms Noel and Olga which caused a great deal of damage but lucky for us it didn't affect us that much, just people in rural areas further south. I have never lived through a hurricane and wouldn't know what to do as we don't have anywhere to go! Batten down the hatches and hope and pray is all we can do!
