Does it seem like your boss hates everything you do?

No matter how many of my customers say they are impressed with my work, and how there job turned out better than they imagined, my boss makes comments, in front of the customer and other employees, that demeans me and my work. Then he will seek out others, usually his close friends, that tell him that I'm doing things wrong. But, if I'm staying within budget and the product is made to high quality, and the customer is thrilled with the result, isn't that a good thing? I've worked at this company for 16 months and have made vast improvements in the quality of the products, and have also improved employee performance, set forth cost saving techniques, etc., but he hasn't said thank you, or good job once in that time. He also tells me that no one that works in the company is as good as he is or as smart, (even though he just lost his drivers licence and received a misdemeanor for running from the cops on an atv.). What I'm wondering is; Is this how most small business owners or bosses are, or is it just that the guy I work for is a jerk?

I know how you feel. The McDonald's I worked at was bought out by a private owner. And he never had a nice word to say to anyone. Not a "keep up the good work" or a "nice job". Nothing. He just constantly complained about everything and anything. And of course on top of that, he didn't know how to run a business. I hope your boss gets off your back. All I can say, is just try to ignore him. You know that you're doing a good job, and that's all that matters.

I think, its not like that. most of the bosses have an worry that if they say something good abt you then you will start demanding more, may be interms of salary and some other things that your other same level collegues are not getting. also it seems this kind of things happens only in case of a smaller business or company. in case of professionally managed company these do not happen often. the employees get recognised by their good work and contribution to the company. because always a better and bigger company thinks for long term survival and wants to stick to their core values and services wher a small business may get changed any day any where and also does not have a sustainable survival strategy for the long run.

I'm sorry you work for a jerk. Sadly, this behavior can be pretty typical. The best thing I can say is to not take it personally and to listen to your customers who praise you. You might also consider eventually looking fora new job. ((HUGS))
