Give the Federal more power/responsibility

Should the government allow the Federal Reserve monitor investment banks as well as traditional bank? Is this giving them too much power? Will this be too big of a task for them? Will they be able to do the job appropriately? I mostly have the mentality of keeping the government/agencies out of people's business and this is no exception. I think they should not be given any more responsibilities or any more power.
