Sentimental things

I was clearing out a box of old papers and bits of junk yesterday, and you honestly wouldn't beleive how long it took me! Virtually every item I picked up held some memories for me and i sat and relished every one of them. I was supposed to be clearing out clutter and thowing things away, but I swear that my pile was not much smaller when I had finnished that when I began.
The odd things was that it was not the things you'd have expected that made me the most sentimental, but everyday normal things. I had cards from some pretty special occassions that I was able to chuck in the fire with hardly a thought, yet some drawings and bills had me nearly in tears. There was even a packet of cigarette papers from someone who is no longer with me that I couldn't chuck out.
Are you the same with sentimental things? What tugs at your memories and makes you pause to remember?
Is it good for us to keep memories alive, or is the past the past?

Those boxes holding memories are very precious arent they??
For 30 years i held onto my boxes of memories...then we came to live here near my mum in the east midlands...well we have a tiny house..and there is very limited storage...so i had to scale down...
So every time one of the kids visited..i asked them to take one of their boxes...and eventually the piles that i had became the piles that they had!!
so instad of having to part with any memeories ..they have just been shared around a little bit more!!
I have kept all manner of things!!..vitamin tokens...and natinal dried milk tokens...from when the kids were little...to a leaf..which was picked up on a childhood walk!!!...sentimental....maybe..but i think its good to have our memories!!
