I Am A Failure (again)

Okay I will be the first to admit that I am a failure once again in a certain area of my life. Once again, I had tried to quit smoking but failed miserably. I lasted a whole 11 days this time around. I am not addicted to the nicotine. It is a mental addiction I suffer from. It is the actions I would do while I smoked that made me start up again. I couldn't sit at the puter for long as I felt wierd not having a smoke as I did my thing online. I could not walk ouitside as usual withoput a smoke. It even affected my sleeping pattern as I would wake up constantly and not having a smoke made me stay up longer as opposed as beforre. I weould wake up, smoke a cigarette then go back to sleep. It's a lot of mental addictions/habits that I need to break. Maybe I need to go the route of the hypnosis when and if I can afford it. As you can tell in this photo I also seem to have added a few pounds in those 11 days I had not smoked. So for all you smokers out here, are you addicted to the nicotine? Or is it like my addiction, purely a physical act that you need? That's what it is for me anyhow. Thanks all and have a great day/evening. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Grandpa!! Grandpa!! Grandpa!! 11 days?! You lasted for 11 days!!!! I wish I could say that!! I'm a smoker and would dearly LOVE to quit but like you, it's more of a mental thing but as well as nicotine too but YOU were doing so well!! Couldn't you try harder to get past the mental thing? Eventually you would've been so tired you'd have fallen asleep eventually. ARG!! BTW - You are NOT a failure!! So never call yourself that. EVER!! At least you've tried and that's more than a lot of people can say!

Thanks I think. 11 days felt like a month or more to me actually. I was not really soing that well. The mental addiction is bad and I could not handle all the effects it was having on me. I feel better mentally now that I am smoking again. But health wise is still a problem. Oh well. Another day and I shall attempt this again I am sure. Well that term was used mostly for glam and to attract more attention to this discussion. Thanks. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I give you alot of credit for quiting for 11 days. You tried you failed. Try again. I am sure one day you will be able to quit. I for one am a smoked and mine is addiction. I am addicted to the nicotine. I even crave them when I am sick. Not a good form to say the least when your sick.

Ha ha ha ha ha ... we're at it again. But this does not give us the reasons to get so hard on our selves. In due time our time will come. I've heard on the radio it's now considered a medical thing, but like the billionth cures we heard before, if we're ready for it then we'll do it, right?

ok...count me in as an addict. I have quit and unquit so many times. Last time, I went months and was so proud and then I don't know....it takes almost nothing for me to start up again. don't be down on yourself. The most you can do is get your willpower back up and try again. I did the hypnosis thing and it did not work for me. It did work for my friend who went with me so give it a shot.

it is very hard to stop doing something you are addicted with me it is eating. I think it makes the addiction worse when you are trying to do without as it is on your mind all the time. Don't feel too much of a failure next time you will succeed, good luck and don't forget to let us all know how you go on

You are not a failure, look at it this way you succeeded in giving up for 11 days! That is better than not even trying. Can I suggest something? Give up smoking inside. If you have to go outside in the freezing cold late at night make that your new routine. You will be one step closer to giving up and your house will be a lot cleaner and smell a whole lot better too.

I think if it is that you always smoke in certain situations make the transition easier while at the same time clear the air in the house. You will have to fight the urge to smoke in front of the computer etc, but at least you are not fighting those nicotine demons at the same time.

Don't feel bad Grandpa Bob. You lasted 11 days. You will make it. Just not this time. I failed, also. And I had the patch to help me quit smoking. I am not smoking quite as much but it is still too much for my standards. Mine, is also the action. I have tried straws and toothpicks and pencils to hold and that wasn't enough. Tootsie Roll pops helped some because there was an action involved. Even the smell of smoke did not bother me that much. Oh well.

I don't feel so bad anyhow. I just hated the fact I couldn't make it two weeks even. But I'll try again once I feel mentally prepared I think. Thanks. I've plenty candies to munch on. It.s not that easy though but someday. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Hey there Grandpa Bob! Hang in there! If you fall off the horse you just have to dust yourself off and get right back on. There are a lot of people who try over and over again befre they can actually be successful when it come to breaking the smoking habit. Don't give up, just keep on trying. Lots of luck.

I am definitely an addict. I can identify with what you are going through. I want to quit so badly and have tried thousands of times, yet I always come back to it. I made it three weeks once and ended up going right back to it. I did make it through my daughters pregnancy without smoking. I kick myself daily for going back to it after I had sucessfully kicked the habit. Ugh! Keep trying Bob, that's all you can do. Just don't give up!

well for 11 days and that is 246 hours you did not smoke..and that something..even one day is a victory.. I am sure you can do it..as I quit 22 years ago last june and I like to smoke but I just get married and my bride asked me to give up smoking..maybe if you could get a new wife you could give up smoking..well, its a thought but don't marry a smoker grandpa..and she should not have a lot of vices either..and try to get a younger model with no to many miles on her..lol.. just kiddding as i know you already have someone else...but if you don't stop smoking you may make an ash out of yourself...

I have never been a smoker, so I don't know how hard it is. Are you not going to try again? It must be frustrating not being able to quit. I hope you try again. Have a good day!

Well at least you know that you have a problem. Some people have addictions and don't think it is a problem, but it doesn't to them until their health is put into jeopardy. I can give you some advice. I think you should try to be more positive. I know you stopped for 11 days, that is good. Try to beat that and set a goal to go 12 days next time. I can almost guarantee that you will eventually quit, if you try to set a goal to beat your previous quit time. You have already acknowledged that you are trying to quit. You just need some positive thinking and some encouraging from someone you love. Try to hang around people that don't smoke and those that are trying to quit.

Grandpa your not a failure so stop saying that! Going without a smoke for 11 days is great. Dont do the hypnosis thing because I know a couple of my friends who have gone that way and its a waste of time and money. How about the patch and go to your family doctor and he can order you something to help you. I think you did great my friend. Dont give up. Hugs

I am indeed disappointed Grandpa Bob that you went back to smoking. But hell! we would all die anyway, with or without smoking. LOL! But still, I would have loved to see your story on completely quitting from smoking. I don't really consider you a failure because I think that going back to smoking is a matter of decision. Decision not to break the habit and decision not to endure more of the discomforts that one feels. I can't say that I blame you. To each is his own so to say. We all have our own personal battles to fight. Whatever the outcome is being determined by the choices that we made. Just the same, I wish you one helluva of fun!

don't feel bad, grandpa bob.. i've tried 15 times to quit.although,my longest run of non-smoking was due to the patches,i couldn't cold turkey at all,too irritable. but to answer your question-to me,it's both. the worst is the routine habit when you're used to smoking while on the phone,on the comp, doing household things. my problem is compounded by having 3 other smokers in the house.you smell it,you want it.and sooner or later you have "just one". i'm gonna try my 16th attempt soon, tho this time,i'm gonna add working out to at least keep myself occupied instead of thinking of it.

Sad to say, I am also a failure in so many ways. Not in the smoking area but in other aspects of my life. I studied so hard yet, I can't find the job that is suited to what I have studied. I also didn't show up to my families because I wanted to prove to them that I can only see them once I become successful. I always start from the beginning and it seems like nothing is happening. Sometimes, I want to give up but I can't. I need to be stronger.
