The other day another MyLot member posted a discussion about a group of girls singing the National Anthem and while I was watching it on Youtube I came across another video. http://youtube.com/watch?v=dl32Y7wDVDs&feature=related This one is of Obama and his plans concerning nuclear weapons and our country if he becomes President. He states that he plans to disarm our country in hopes that other countries will also disarm. While the thought is nice it leaves us open to any and all attacks by any other country on the face of the earth. He also states that he will slow weapon development and will not develop new nuclear weapons. Although I’d love to live in a totally violence free world I don’t see that happening and what he is suggesting is simply suicide for the US. Although he says that he isn’t Muslim I can’t help but think that this would make us sitting ducks for not only them but any other group or terrorist. Do you think with plans like this that he should even be running for President? Do you think his ideas would help us or send us all to our graves? Do you even think a nuclear weapon free world is possible? Thanks for taking time to read/respond and have a nice day! **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

Obama is an idiot. He is niave to think that we can disarm ourselves and every other country is going to play nice. No wonder the Muslim countries want him to be president. After all, he is basically telling them that we are going to be an easy target. This is why democrats are viewed as being weak on National Security issues. Obama is a lawyer, he has no military background, and he is not an economist. While he has high sounding ideals, he is also THE MOST liberal in Congress.... he is even more liberal than Ted Kennedy. Then there is the whole issue of his lack of experience. The only thing he really does well is make speeches... and most of those are written for him.... so all he has to worry about is the delivery.

Looking at our history with other countries I can't believe either that if we throw out our weapons that they are going to take up hands with us and sing kumbaya. I am really hoping that ppl think long and hard before casting a vote for this man. That's part of why I posted this discussion was to bring the video to ppl's attention. Thanks for responding!! **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

"While he has high sounding ideals, he is also THE MOST liberal in Congress..." You say that like they're opposites. Being a liberal doesn't preclude you from doing good things in the world. If anything, I'd say being staunchly conservative impedes the world's progress.

Since the weapons have already been developed there is no way to be neuclur free. Somebody could get the plans & build their own & without the threat of similar retalitation there's nothing to stop them from using it. The threat of mutually assured destruction is what has kept there from being a full scale neuclear war. We don't need to be spending money on developing new ones. The ones we have are enough to destroy the earth several times over. We can't however just give up what we have when there's even the possibility of someone else using the same technology. How about we just start launching idiotic polititians at out enemies?

If the video you saw of Obama promising unilateral nuclear disarmament is not an elaborate hoax, soon to be exposed, he will never be elected. The American electorate is not that stupid. I promise unilateral nuclear disarmament by the USA would result in WWIII or our immediate subjugation by one of the remaining nuclear powers. What is Obama " smokin'n'tokin'n "? I ask because he really is a brillant man. He has to know better.

Well, I think if the video had been made any other way I might have thought along the lines of a hoax, but since it is him and he is saying it, I have to believe that it is on the up and up. His being a brillant man leads me to the next question of what is he really up to. I have no doubt that he knows better but it makes me wonder if he doesn't have his own agenda. I'm glad to see that your happy with your #1 star...some ppl have nothing better to do then be childish and negative rate ppl. If Obama disarms the United States, then United States will be attacked by every terrorist group and enemy on the planet. Not only that, but any citizen of the United States will be in danger and do not forget that the terrorists will not distinguish between Americans and Canadians. They will think that the tourists holding those little flags with the Maple Leaf and the travel goods with maple leaves are just disguises by Americans trying to pretend to be Canadians. So if he becomes president, he will be bringing not only America but Canada down as well.

I cannot get to the link to watch this because I am at work and our network blocks youtube. I have e-mailed myself the link in case I can't find this discussion from home because I have GOT to see this! Has he lost his ever-lovin' mind? It's nice to fantasize about a perfect utopia but this world isn't even close yet! Disarm the US and HOPE the rest of the world would follow???? I guess I could walk out onto the freeway and HOPE the cars and semis wouldn't run me down--what a undeniably stupid thing to say!

Hello Twoey, To preface: I live not far from the Los Alamos National Laboratories (LANL). Just last week, I heard a lengthy local interview with the LANL chief nuclear regulatory chairman. I was surprised to hear what he had to say. He indicated, in very specific language, the status of the current state of our nuclear arsenal. Now here's the surprise: Under the Bush administration, our nuclear arsenal has been cut by a little over 50%. Which means that over the course of the past 7 1/2 years, we have dismantled, and retired more than half of our nukes! I'd say that represents real progress in the area of non-proliferation. Though, not surprisingly, I haven't heard this on any national or international news. Hmmm, I wonder why??? Anyway, to address your question specifically: If Obama is pledging to unilaterally dismantle the rest of our nuclear capacity, then he clearly is a complete novice in the area of international relations. Henry Kissinger's devised plan "M.A.D." or Mutually Assured Destruction, is the only reason why the USA and the former USSR didn't start WWIII back in the 1960s. As others have pointed out here: it is to this day, a powerful deterrent to either a nation-state, or a rogue entity discharging a nuclear weapon in an act of war. Some might question the veracity of my claim regarding MAD as a deterrent to rogue entities. Though, I'm am fully convinced that even the wholly irrational Islamo-fascist organizations realize that if they ever discharged a nuke, that something very dear to them will be reciprocally targeted, namely their holy sites, or mosques. Those holy sites are their achilles heel. We know it, and they know that we know it. So, MAD is still an effective tool. As the USA comes closer to deploying its Missile Defense System, the sole reliance on MAD as a deterrent will wane. Though, it will never, ever be an irrelevant deterrent, because always there will be maniacal tyrants who long to subjegate others. Fortunately, we're getting very close to deployment of our Missile Defense System. The former Eastern Block nations are very committed to allowing the USA to position Missile Defense within their national boundaries. The fact that Russia refuses to remove its troop from Georgia and Moldavia is very troubling to those who were once under the oppressive thumb of the USSR. For example: today at the NATO meeting in Bucharest, Romania, Putin refused to acknowledge any foul over Russia inserting its troops into Georgian & Moldavian sovereign territory. "Putin said Russia wants to preserve the treaty, but that the West must ratify the new version signed in 1999. He dismissed NATO's claim that Russia needs to withdraw its troops from Georgia and Moldova, saying there is no link between the issues" http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D8VR3MIO0&show_article=1 By his proposal to fully disarm, Sen. Obama has demonstrated, for the whole world to see, that he is not only ignorant to foreign policy needs, and national security issues -- but that he is a perceived danger to all other nations who are committed to never again being oppressively ruled by a malevolent giant, like the USSR! Obama should study up on his World History! Those nations who share a border with Russia are efforting themselves to be accepted into NATO for a very good reason. They are very nervous about Russia's recent effort to rebuild its military! So, if Obama wins the White House, and follows through with his plan to unilaterally disarm our nuclear capability, then he will send a very clear message to all those former USSR territories that the USA is not committed to their sovereign survival. Bad idea Obama!!!

Hello Twoey, Yes, precisely! Although to be even accurate, is it more like the ultimate lose-lose scenario! Which is exactly what Henry Kissinger was angling for -- a threat so terrible that none would take the risk -- because it would result in full scale global annihiliation. His plan deliberately put all manner of pressure on both the USA & the USSR, by way of their trading partners. Nobody wants the world to be blown to smithereens. MAD worked remarkably well, at least in regard to full-scale strategic nuclear weapons. Though to be sure, Short-range Tactical Nuclear Weapons (TNWs) were designed for battlefield use in conjunction with conventional forces. They are not regulated like the strategic nukes are, so there is a much greater risk of less than "Mutually Assured Destruction" as a result of their use. Brezhnev & Bush, Sr, both expressed a strong interest to get away from these TNWs. Where much has been accomplished in that regard! Thankfully! Though it is precisely the existence of TNWs that makes our missile defense shield so very important. Hopefully one day soon, we won't have to worry about TNWs or Strategic nukes, like Inter-continental ballistic missiles, because we'll be able to detonate enemy missiles before they ever land. As the viability of the technology becomes recognized, the hope is that no one will even bother to discharge missiles, because they will know that the missiles will be detonated before they can produce the maximum result of intended destruction and loss of life. Though, we are not at that point yet. If we were, I would not be AS highly critical of someone considering the notion of disassembling of all of our nukes. That day will hopefully be a reality. Though it certainly won't be in the next eight years! It will take longer than that to get missile defense stations built and operating treaties with global partners from around the world. I am compelled to clarify: I do not support the USA ever fully withdrawing from nuclear technology -- because fissile material is not only relegated to bomb making. I fully support that the US Military always has some contingent of its best and brightest staying one step ahead of any unfriendlies, who may be experimenting in new and more dangerous applications of radioactive materials. Ya' know, it's kind of strange Twoey, but I really don't feel much angst that Obama will get an opportunity to enact his dangerous and goofy plans. I'm not sure why, but my gut tells me that we don't have to worry about Obama. Not at this time anyway. We'll see. Though, I hope that my gut is telling me the truth. I rather appreciate not feeling all knotted up over a possible Obama Presidency. Ewwww, shudder to think! If I am understanding your response right, it is the fact that we have those weapons that keep other countries from using the same types of weapons against us...a lose-lose theory. You bomb us, we bomb you type thing. I also believe that is the purpose of having those weapons. I'm praying he doesn't get the chance to put his idea's into action. Thanks for responding!!

Oh my...I think this would be a bad idea. Of course we are no longer the big dog on the block anyway. Most countries around the world no longer look to us as a strong, competent country. We are too far in debt to arm our troops with the best weapons and protection. Our intell folks are not well trained. And the list goes on. We need to do a better job protecting ourselves. The mere threat of being able to destroy an enemy is often enough to keep them at bay. I dont think anyone is afraid of us now. When Harry Truman dropped the bomb on Japan, it not only changed the course of the war, but it may us look strong. What do we have now? We are so PC that we do not want to offend anyone. If Obama believes that disarming our country would be good for the world-he is dreaming.

I agree that we do need to do a better job of protecting ourselves. I think that over the years we kind of fell down on the job. I have not seen the video you speak of, twoey, but if Mr. Obama really believes he can bring about peace in this manner he is living in a Fool's Paradise. This is one more reason I don't believe him to be qualified to be our nation's leader. His lofty ideals are fine in theory but we live in the real world. As things now stand I don't see us living in a nuclear weapon-free world anytime soon.

I don't think the bombs actually protect us from terrorists but they do protect us by being a last resort when there are no other options. They also make other countries think twice before bombing us knowing that we will return the favor...it would destroy both sides and most countries realize the pointlessness of that. Obama is living in a fantasy world. There are too many people out there who would love to attack the U.S. A president with his views will surely be castrophic, it will be a big mistake for the U.S. to be disarmed. I am sure the Iranians and the Russians would love for us to disarm. I pray this man does not win. I had doubts about him, and after I saw his pastor that was it for me. I really don't care for John Mccain, but if it comes down to him and Obama I may stay home this election or vote for Nader.

This has definitely narrowed down my choices for president. You're right when you say a 100% peaceful world is not going to happen anytime soon. If you thought 9/11 (in a still-armed America) was bad, an attack on an unarmed America will be millions of times worse. I wonder if anyone has ever questioned Obama publicly about this plan.
