I might be travelling by bus in May to Canada. It's about a day and a half ride. It's much cheaper than flying and takes you right to where you need to go. I wonder though how safe it is? I have heard some horror stories from people who have taken long bus trips. I rode on a bus for four days once and was just fine, but that was in the 70's, alot has changed since then. Should I be very careful, hide my money, etc? Has anyone taken a long bus trip that was a bit scary?

I think it sounds like quite an adventure and I don't think you should feel too worried about safety, just be sensible with your valuables and keep your money and passport and important documents about your person the whole time, like an inside pocket inside your blouse or jacket. I hope you get to enjoy the journey and experience without too much hassle, if the service was so poor it would have been discontinued by now, don't you think? Good luck!

Thanks, that's what I think of it as, and adventure. I love adventure and hate the hassles of airports, plus flying hurts my ears. I love being able to see different parts of the country. I will take your advice, relax and have a nice trip! Thanks for your help!

So nice to hear you think of it as an adventure. I'm quite green with envy actually. I'd love to take a long bus trip. Hubby and I might go to Scotland later this year and might go on a coach rather than drive ourselves just to experience a different way of travel. I hope you have fun and do come back and let us know how it went. x

I live in Canada 7 months of the year and in the US 5 months. I've never felt any Fear of either country. I've also done a few Bus Trips. The last one was from Texas to Monterrey Mexico in 2006. It was a 3 day tour, and was quite entertaining. I enjoyed it immensely and didn't have a moments fright. My advise would be- Go for It!

I have not traveled by bus since the 80's but loved it. I also love adventure and think a bus trip sounds absolutely like a ton of fun. I too would advise you just to be alert to your surroundings and to keep your valuables in a secure spot on your person. Also be sure you have a cell phone with you that will work in the areas you are going. And above all.. HAVE FUN AND ENJOY..
