Below is a photo of my favorite at home ashtray. Not sure these are made any longer. This one is very old but serves my purpose. Recently on our local news it was reported that statistics have proven that the smoking bans in several restaurants and bars have lead to an increase in dwi tickets. It seems customers who can't smoke in or around their favorite watering hole are driving away from the facility to smoke after or while drinking and having car accidents. By theory is: why not build a small, enclosed area outside where smokers can go and smoke while still having a brew or a meal in their favorite restaurant. The smokers would be away from the building and not causing any healh hazards to others. What's your take on this idea?

I can tell you here in NYC there are still clubs that let you smoke, in a different section. They have found a balance, or you can go out to the front. Ainge

We have a few restaurants that still allow smoking inside. The Illinois casinos are suffering financially because they have gone "non smoking." Patrons can still smoke inside Missouri casinos. Thanks for responding.

What a perfect solution to all the controversy on this subject. There used to be separate smoking areas but the government abolished that idea and I do not think they will change things anytime soon.

The local hospitals in our city did have a separate, little smoking area away from hospitals, such as across the street. It's my understand this has been shut down and there is no smoking on any of the hospital grounds. People can't even smoke in their own cars. It's gone too far and too much time, money and energy has been wasted on this issue. Thanks for responding.

many establishments in our town offer a covered area for their smoking patrons to go have a stogie. This area is outside and not near the main entrance.

Bet the smokers in your area are happy about having a sheltered place to smoke. Thanks for responding.

I was just reading about this in my local paper a few hours ago. The bar down the street from me had a small shed that they fixed up last fall just for the smokers to go out and smoke in out of the weather but some idiot called the police 2 days after the law went into effect and complained about it. I couldn't believe my ears when I heard about it. For petes sake, they did it just for the smokers so they wouldn't lose any business and some jerk just had to cause trouble. Well, guess what? The owner found out who the stool pigeon was and banned that person from the bar. She is still fighting it.

I am a smoker but I do respect others who don't smoke. That seems mean the customer had to "rag" on the smokers. Maybe she needs to get behind a bus while driving..lol Thanks for responding.

There are some places here in Minnesota that do that as we are totally smoke free.....hmmmmm what happens if all of us smokers quit? When everyone taxes go up because the cig. tax is no longer available some will be singing a different tune. I can see why people are on the road after drinking..but even if they didn't smoke they probably would be out there after tipping a few....maybe it's time to ban drinking! Start evening out some of this effort to curtail vices...I know I shouldn't smoke but really.....it's just another bandwagon that the politicians jump on to look good! Personally I'm getting quite sick of the whole thing.

I rarely have a drink but am not against drinking. I am, however, against driving after drinking several drinks. No kidding about banning drinking. Being smoke free also takes away someone's person right to do as they please. As long as it's not offending anyone else, I don't see a problem. So make a shelter or area strictly for smokers and then them smoke. Thanks for responding.

I have seen those ashtrays before. Yes I think an enclosed area would actually help a lot of businesses such as bars and diners where smoking is banned. It doesn't have to be much...just a little shelter from wind and elements would be a great courtesy and i bet good for business.

Unique ashtray you got right there. We also have this old ashtray. I guess it's almost 20 years now. I don't have pictures though but it looks simple, it's thick colorless ashtray and it has a square shape. Nobody smokes at home but we had it since for visitors who do smoke. My brother also use it sometimes if he smokes inside the house (when my parent's is out )

my gramma had an ashtray like that...she'd had a stroke and it was helpful when no one was around to empty it for her...I've always wanted one and I'm sure you can order the larger ones that they use outside of businesses, but I'm not sure about the smaller versions for home use...thnx for the memories!...;o)...

My ashtray is an ugly brown but it does the job. I do like the free standing idea so it's away from walls and furniture. Glad I could trip your memory. Thanks for responding.
